I have been considering getting my belly button pierced again. I took it out before because I didn't have a good body image so I never showed it. Well, I feel better about myself and would like one. My only concern is that were not finished having children, provided God wishes us to have more, and I would have to remove it when pregnant. Which won't be for at least a couple years. What do you think? |

I did. I don't generally like 'em. But I posted no for tatoos, too. I think women over 27 are better off expressing themselves through their dress, than tattoos and piercings. |

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead

I'm the wrong guy to ask. I don't even like double ear piercings. And don't EVEN get me started on tongues, eyebrows or lips. |

Of course, the guy to ask is LD.... LD, will a belly button ring contribute to the likelihood of a larger family? If so.... |

Well, it would frighten you that at one time I had 9 holes in my body. 2 on my upper left ear, 3 holes on each of my lobes, and one belly button ring.

I'd get one (says the girl who already has one, and is going to get a tattoo this afternoon) If you like it (and LD is ok with it) then go for it. Yeah, you can take it out when it becomes an issue during pregnancy, and then you can choose whether or not to get it done again then. You're proud of how you look, and it sounds like you'd like one - enjoy it! (And for the record, my navel piercing caused no problems other than me having to give up ball work in pilates for awhile while it was tender. My cartlidge piercing was much more troublesome) |

Cartilage piercings tend to take a lot longer to heal than any other. Cartilage simply isn't that vascular. I voted yes, after you are finished having all the kids you want. It's YOUR body. If you want to pierce your navel, GO FOR IT!! ![]() I got my tattoo last August, and got my left ear pierced last February. The cool thing about waiting until you're older to do these things, is that when you do them, you're less likely to do it impulsively, and take more time and planning to get what you really want. Dol, good luck, this afternoon!

I don't see the point in waiting. I mean, let's say you wait 2 years to have kids. The piercing will cost in the $50 range (depending where you go). You'd likely have no problem paying $50 for a pair of shoes that you'll wear often, and will likely wear for about two years. Having the piercing when you're pregnant won't hurt anything (the hole, that is - though I've known a few people to leave the rings in through pregnancy, they tend to migrate out if you do that). You want one now - you've had it before so you know you like the look and the healing process. Why wait? (If it was a tattoo in the hip/belly area, I'd be saying to wait...piercings are different) |

I voted no. Making holes in your body carries the possibility of infection. I just can't see past that. All piercing, even a single one in the ear, seems barbaric to me. I guess I'm just conservative. |

Kenny, if you go to a reputable piercing place, the risk of infection is no higher than any household cut. They steralize all the equipment the same way the medical field does. Now, I'd never go to the sketchy hole in the wall piercing/tattoo places because you're asking for trouble. But the places I've gone are just as clean and professionally run as my doctor's office...the people are just more "interesting". |

I know I know. Still, I'm not going to let the Surgen General of the United States do something optional and cosmetic that carries a .00000000000000000000000000001% chance of infection. The risk, however small, makes all piercings and tatoos unattractive to me. I'm not preaching what anyone else should do. Just answering a question with my opinion. If you want to do it to yourself knock yourself out. |

I think your right Dol. I think i may have it done in the next couple months. What kind of tattoo are you getting and where? Mik, I'll post pictures once I get it done and once I've lost about 10 more pounds.

Then technically I've had 16 holes in me at one time. Gives being Holy a whole new perspective.

I'm getting the first line from "Jabberwocky" across my back. Through the Looking Glass has been a favourite of mine since I was 10 or 11 - I'm rather enamoured with it. I didn't want the cheesy Cheshire cat or the disnified Alice, and the original woodcuts don't translate into tattoos well, so I thought this was a good way to incorporate it. I have a picture of my navel piercing somewhere...I'll look for it. |

Cool. I've wanted to get a tattoo before, but for me it is too permanent. I mean, if I don't like a piercing, I can just take out the earring or belly ring. A tattoo is much harder to get rid of if I don't like it later in life. |
