Colo. priest charged for jogging naked The Associated Press Article Last Updated: 08/08/2007 02:54:57 PM MDT FREDERICK, Colo.—A Catholic priest faces an indecent exposure charge after police said he went jogging in the nude about an hour before sunrise. The Rev. Robert Whipkey told officers he had been running naked at a high school track and didn't think anyone would be around at that time of day, a police report said. He told officers he sweats profusely if he wears clothing while jogging. "I know what I did was wrong," he said in the report. Whipkey did not return phone messages. His attorney, Doug Tisdale, told the Longmont Times-Call that Whipkey had no comment. Whipkey, 53, was arrested June 22 in this small town about 20 miles north of Denver. An officer said he saw a naked man walking down the street at 4:35 a.m. The U.S. Naval Observatory Web site said sunrise that day in Frederick was 5:31 a.m. The officer said when he shined his flashlight at the man, he covered himself with a piece of clothing he was carrying. The Archdiocese of Denver said it takes the incident seriously but is awaiting the outcome of the case. Whipkey, who also officiates at parishes in the nearby towns of Mead and Erie, remains an active priest. If convicted of indecent exposure, a misdemeanor, he would have to register as a sex offender, prosecutors said. |

Sadie from Harrow is having a daytime affair while her husband Cyril is at work. One wet and rainy day she’s in bed with her boyfriend Morris when to her horror she hears Cyril’s car pull into the driveway. She looks out the window and yells to Morris, "Quick, jump out the window, my husband's home early." "I can't jump out the window - it's raining," says Morris. "If my Cyril catches us together, he'll kill us both," she says. "He's got a jealous temper and a large gun. The rain is the least of your problems." So Morris gets out of bed, grabs his clothes and jumps out the window. As he begins running down the street in the pouring rain, he discovers he’s run right into the middle of the Harrow Marathon. There’s not much he can do but continue to run alongside the real runners. Being naked, with his clothes tucked under his arm, he tries to blend in as best he can. After a while, a group of runners who have been studying him with some curiosity, jog closer. "Do you always run in the nude?" asks one of them. "Oh yes," replies Morris, gasping for air, "it feels so wonderfully free." Another runner moves alongside. "Do you always run carrying your clothes with you under your arm?" "Oh, yes," Morris answers, breathlessly, "that way I can quickly get dressed at the end of the run and get in my car to go home." Then a third runner casts his eyes a little lower down and asks Morris, "Do you always wear a condom when you run?" "Oh no," replies Morris, "only when it's raining." |

Clergy are just people. Actors are just people. Politicians are just people. Plumbers, construction workers, doctors, and pianists are all just people. You can try and pin people up -- oh, look he did something bad... and he's a priest! Well, people do bad things. It doesn't matter if they are priests or plumbers. |

I agree. I would guess that one way to try to deal with a sexual deviancy which one is deeply ashamed of would be to pursue a job where sex is expressly forbidden. |

It also attracts people without problems, too. There are also doctors who do bad things. There are also pianists who do bad things. There are also teachers who do bad things. There are also police officers who do bad things. There are also babysitters who do bad things. |

Is the percentage of people in other professions the same as that in the (Catholic) clergy? I don't know, just asking.

Percentage of what? Percentage of people who run naked? I believe nudism is actually a quite popular idea throughout Europe, and even in some parts of the United States. Percentage of people who molest children? How about the percentage of people who murder? Or the percentage of people who abuse their children? Or the percentage of people who commit tax fraud? Or the percentage of people who illegally download mp3's? Or the percentage of people who don't use their turn signal while changing lanes on the freeway? There are many bad things that a person can do, and I don't think it's worthwhile to try and calculate the percentage of people in a certain profession who do bad things... because pretty much everyone in pretty much every profession does bad things. (I say "pretty much" because I'm open to exceptions -- but I don't know that there are any.) |

There's something called "practicing what one preaches", I'm pretty sure that molestation is against a commandment or two. It's hardly out of bounds to expect more from priests! |

Sam, I, for one, am not asking to compare percentages. However, there are those who've commented that sexual abstinence as part of your "job description" tends to attract those with a predilection toward sexual abuse. That's why the question was asked. |

I'd think that someone who wanted to be sexually active would try to avoid a career that required abstinence? Am I missing something? Perhaps the job that requires abstinence might rather attract those who want to abstain anyway. |

I'm pretty sure molestation is about as 100% unacceptable, regardless of the profession. I dont think "thou shalt not touch little boys" is a Christian-only value. Anyway, I dont have the stats, so I've committed the cardinal sin of online debates...but I'm pretty sure there is a higher percentage of teachers who are also child abusers than priests who are child abusers. So it's unfair to make comments (like Kenny did in his thread title) about a profession that doesn't have an abnormal number of child abusers....but then again, that's Kenny's deeply hidden religion-bashing, right Kenneth? ![]() I'm just sayin'. |

Daily Mail Carry On... streaking: Judge refuses to give 'harmless' sporting stripper an Asbo By JAMES TOZER - More by this author » Last updated at 21:56pm on 7th August 2007 He has made an exhibition of himself at some of the world's most famous sporting arenas. But it looked like the final whistle had sounded for serial streaker Mark Roberts when police applied for an Asbo to stop him exposing himself. Yesterday, however, a judge blocked the order. And Mr Roberts vowed to carry on streaking. The unemployed 42-year-old Liverpudlian was most recently spotted at last year's Ryder Cup, running on to the course with just a toy squirrel preserving his modesty and a golf ball between his buttocks as Tiger Woods was about to tee off. |

Is that like lesbian gym teachers blending in with society and finding young flesh? We do not assume that the teacher is a child molester, why would we assume it about the priest. I think that I agree with Sam's comments in this thread. There are bad apples everywhere. |

My problem isn't with the fact that some priests are imperfect, they're only human beings after all. In this part of the world there is the perception among many church-goers that the church establishment conducted a cover-up of these activities, and that one of the primary movers in this cover up, Cardinal Law, rather than being fired, was shunted out of the way and given a nice little retirement job in Vatican City. If true, I think this is appalling. |
