HOLY CARP!!!
I'm not asking how often you listen to public radio.
How often do you listen to the NEWS program NPR?

Select the closest choice.
You don't have to listen to the whole program to vote yes.

Edit:
NPR stands for National Public Radio.
It is a radio news broadcast.

Their M-F morning show is called, "Morning Edition"
Their M-F afternoon show is called, "All Things Considered"
Their weekend show is called, "Weekend Edition"

I don't keep track. Usually if I'm listening to public radio of any type it's for classical music that isn't on NPR. Sometimes though if it's on, I'll listen to it. While I consider the reporting to be quite liberal, some of the way the stories themselves are reported can sometimes make it worth listening to.

After my kids were born, I turned off the TV (it's supposed to make young kids instantly dumb, you know).

The silence nearly killed me at first, so I turned on the radio (good language skills for the kids, I reasoned).

I listened to a lot of talk radio.

Even Dr. Laura. :leaving:

I gave up Dr. Laura eventually, when I started to worry that I might become her. I kept NPR.

You've seen Dr. Laura, right? Not that she's not attractive, but she's, um, well, rather coiffed and uptight.

I've posted pictures of me before. Not that I'm necessarily unattractive, but I do my best to not become coiffed and uptight. That's a tough way to go.

Here she is. Not a ball of fire. And this is a really good picture of her.

Never.

In the mornings I'll listen to news/traffic/weather or a local morning talk show.

On the way home from work I'll listen to Sean Hannity or Mark Levin.

And on the weekends I'll either listen to a finance talk show, or classic rock stations.

I think I heard NPR one time when I was in Aqua's car.

I honestly have no idea what station it is around here.

pretty much every day. I find it way more interesting than conservative talk radio (and the callers are more tolerable).
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

Every day. Basically, whenever the radio's on. The talk isn't too bad, and the music is often wonderful.

Kenny, I never make it past the first sentence of anything you write. I didn't even know you were a gay hybrid driver until someone sent me a PM.

Finally
I voted "other" simply because I don't listen to the radio in the car anymore. Haven't for years. I listen to books and lectures. That's it. If I want music, I'll put a CD in with a bunch of MP3's on it (I had an after market CD/MP3 player put in it). I can get a whole book on 1 CD.

If I want news, I can come here and get it.

Same for conversation.

It was said of Gorbachev 'he has a nice smile, but iron teeth'. I think it applies to Dr. Laura. I thought she gave some good advice, but was a bit shrill. We could use more clear standards, not less.

That said, Christine Baranski's Dr. Laura-like character on Frasier was hilarious.

R2, IT was referring to the fact that when Dr. Laura was younger, she was having an extra-marital affair, and her lover took some very compromising pictures of her. And as such pictures are wont to do, they found their merry way to the Internet. The ensuing scandal was quite damaging to her reputation

You can find them here if you're interested. Definitely not coiffed and uptight.
Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool.

I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss!

I listen to NPR more than twice a day: Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Marketplace, BBC World Service usually on the weekdays. Fresh Air if I have an early lunch. On the weekends, Weekend Edition, This American Life, Prairie Home Companion, Car Talk, etc. I usually get them on Podcast if I can't listen to them on the radio.

i've never listened to NPR on purpose.

when i lived in SD, i would listen to public radio for the classical music. i knew i had to switch it off by 4 pm when All Things Considered came on (with that damn annoying music it starts with!). one time i fell asleep and still had the radio on. i began having a dream that i was in russia, and the people were standing around discussing the state of the russian economy and its impact on their day-to-day lives. then i woke up and realized All Things Considered was on. that's the last time that happened.

All right, thanks for the background. I usually miss out on celebrity stories. I shoulda known she'd have a skeleton somewhere.

I agree, Mik, despite her shrillness, she makes some interesting arguments. After you listen to her for about a week, though, she repeats herself. Then you're just listening for the shock value of her callers' lives.

Anyone like Ira Glass? My guess is that he is much more relaxed than Laura....

I listened to a pod cast this week of This American Life, about artists and their lack of respect / compensation. Anyone hear it? David Sedaris was the second segment, talking about his stint with performance art.

It cracked me up. I was at the gym listening to him, and laughing outloud. People were looking at me funny. Course that happens anyway.....

Yeah, I heard that Sedaris bit. Hilarious! I could just picture him trying to get high off carpet debris. Kind of explains why so many artists do in fact lack respect/compensation.

Ever since I had to start driving to work, I've been listening to NPR morning and evening. I listen on WDUQ, 90.5 in Pittsburgh and that's the station my car radio is tuned to 90% of the time. They play jazz when the national programming (a mix of NPR and PRI) isn't on.

When I worked at a location that could be practiaclly reached by bus, I read morning and evening. Driving really cuts into my reading time.

I really enjoyed it when I could take the bus to work. Bus riders are a distinct microculture in America, at leats when they are on the bus. There is bus ettiquette, the in and out crowds, etc. Very interesting bunch.

Me, too! I'm embarassed to say that I haven't contribued cash in over two years, I need to do that to make myself a decent person again. I switch, though, after the news to 91.3. I prefer alternative music to jazz. This week they're highlighting John Doe,, which of course made me think of this place.
Course he spells it wrong....

-- Edit -- If you scroll down to the bottom of the John Doe link, you'll see the DJ that authored the description. She was my original namesake inspiration.
