Another water question; Is RO = distilled?

HOLY CARP!!!
This reverse osmosis thing is amazing - that they could make a filter that lets some atoms through but blocks others.

Is the output pure H20, like distilled water?

I'm asking because I buy distilled water for my dammpchasers (only for refills, not the first fill) and for my CPAP machine.

Can I stop buying it?

Ooooh! There's that slippery slope in action!

First it's only for drinking.

Now it's for the Piano and a anti-snoring device.

I am so adjective that I verb nouns!
Some kids did a science experiment showing the toilet water in their school was cleaner than the drinking fountains.

Uhm, CPAP is to preven death and other unpleasant medical problems - a little more serious than an anti-snoring device.

I currently buy distilled water in 1-gallon plastic bottles for those two uses.
If I can use RO water I think overall is better for the planet.
No plastic bottles, which are made from oil.
Yeah the RO unit has plastic but will give me years of service and oceans of water.
No diesel truck used to get the water to the store.

Much cheaper in the long run too.

Don't you wish you were more like Kenny?

Good question. Distilled bottled water has been demineralized so it’s safe for use in steam irons. Some brands of bottled water are reverse osmosis processed but I don’t know if that means the water has been demineralized.

To be sure, send an e-mail or a letter to the bottling company of the reverse osmosis processed water and ask them.

Off the top of my head, I would think R/O coupled with anion/cation tanks and a final scrub filter is better than DI.

The above system is quite capable of producing Grade I reagent water....

Since RO water is meant for drinking, wouldn't it be somewhat unhealthy if it were in fact distilled?

Kenny, what's wrong with your tap water that you don't already use it for your DC?

FWIW: Osmosis and distillation are two COMPLETELY different processes. No, RO water isn't distilled.

Kenny, what's wrong with your tap water that you don't already use it for your DC?

I use distilled to prevent the excessive mineral build up where the pads rest over the heater bars.

I use tap water for the initial fill for the needed minerals but all fill ups are distilled.
I use dammpchaser's additive too and change the pads every 6 months.

I know some minerals are needed in the water for current to pass between those two steel electrodes on top of the heater bars.
But minerals do not evaporate.
H20 does and the concentration of minerals increases over time and hard crusty stuff builds up on the metal electrodes.

Using distilled for the fill ups results in much less crusty gunk to scrape off and pads that are not all hard and crusty when it it diaper-changing time.

I assume dammpchaser doesn't mention using distilled because most people can't be bothered and they want their product to appear hassle-free, and customers would forget and use distilled for the initial fill.

I go through extra hassle with a lot of things that are important to me.
