I'm no Mitt Romney fan...; but this was a great line.

Regarding Obama's dual comments ...

First Obama said in a debate that he'd commit to talking to the leaders of Syria, Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, and North Korea inside of one year.

Then a few days later he said he'd use the military in Pakistan w/o the permission of Musharraf if necessary, even refusing to rule out the use of nuclear weapons in Pakistan.

Romney's line was "This guys went from Jane Fonda to Dr. Strangelove in just one week."

HOLY CARP!!!
The preamble before that was pretty funny too, about Obama having tea with our enemies and bombing our allies.
Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool.

I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss!

Could there be any residual doubt that Obama is not even fit for his Senate seat, much less the presidency?

That's a silly statement.

I could point to stupid statements by every single Republican Senator, and you wouldn't think that disqualified them from office.

I mean, really, the hyperbole is what sets us down the wrong road, and you know it.

At least Bush basically limited himself to malapropisms that don't have such massive international consequences.

I think you are wrong. The Senate is intended to be the deliberative body that tempers the House. These are not the remarks of a deliberative man. These are the remarks of a man who, despite his youth and inexperience, thinks he can go in and do what accomplished statesmen have not been able to with nothing but a 'fresh approach'.

This guy is dangerous.

Honestly, I think you're off the deep end. The entire history of the Bush presidency is ignoring the career diplomats and playing cowboy with foreign policy. Oh, and thumbing our nose at any foreign country that doesn't march lockstep with us on every issue. More dangerous than that? I think not.

I again disagree. I think the resuts o what Bush has done are beginning to show that it was the right course of action. Neither he nor his team of advisors are first timers.

So you can throw stones at Bush all day, but specifically how do you defend Obama's remarks re Pakistan?

I wouldn't even try. That's not to say it may not make sense to use force against AQ inside Pakistan, even w/o Musharraf's cooperation. But its irresponsible to make such a comment.

I must say its refreshing to see that this year's presidential candidates all know who the leader of Pakistan is.

It seems odd that Bush is being pilloried for not doing what his underlings tell him to do. I should run that one by the guy I work for.

It would be difficult for anyone not living in a cave for the last decade not to know. Quite a bit different circumstance from circa 2000.

Really? Three-quarters of the American public lives in caves?

Because I'm betting that not more than 25% of the American public could correctly identify the guy.

Agreed it is more difficult today. But it was inexcusable in 2000. Of course I wouldn't expect a candidate to rattle off the names of the leaders of 185 countries...

How about just the nuclear powers? Are my expectations too high?

OK, how about just the nuclear powers in which there has been a military coup d'etat? Are my expectations still too high?

OK, how about just the nuclear powers in which there has been a military coup within the last 30 days?

I heard a "man-on-the-street" type thing on the radio the other day where everyone asked was stumped to name the country we fought in the Revolutionary War. Yes, I do think possibly more than three-quarters of the American public have been living in caves or might as well have been. Most who do know who the President of Pakistan is, however, are not making use of this knowledge to threaten him while running for President.

In that case it does not seem so odd that Bush would not know the name of someone who was in office barely 30 days. It may have been more interesting to ask him if he knew there was a military coup in Pakistan.

I have to say I agree. I was not at all surprised that Bush couldn't name him. I was embarrassed as an American, but not at all surprised.

Considering that Texas has the largest international border of the 48 contiguous states, and an active on going Texas Border and Mexican Affairs Division, enacted by then Governor Bush, the answer is "yes"
