So, I just downloaded new video drivers from NVidia ...

And now the print on my screen is a little fuzzy.

And I had to change the video settings to get the whole page to fit on the screen, but it's still fuzzy.

Any suggestions?

Ensure the screen resolution matches the native resolution of your display if it's a TFT LCD monitor.

Did you install drivers for your monitor as well? If yes, then the best setting for the monitor should be automagically selected.

It could have something to do with the refresh rate.

What do you mean by "fuzzy"? Do you possibly have it set on a low number of colors and/or resolution? That would explain having to adjust to fit.

I played with the resolution to get it to fit the screen. Of course, the higher resolution worked fine before I downloaded the new video drivers.

The fuzziness ... haven't figured that out yet. I even went back a couple of generations in the drivers, and downloaded archived drivers, but it's stilll fuzzy. As if I don't have TrueType fonts, or something.

I'll try re-installing drivers for the monitor next, see if that helps any.

Quirt, when I added a new LCD monitor to my computer, this happened to me as well. The bottom line is you should have your resolution set so that it's the suggested (optimal) level for the monitor. The second aspect (which solved it for me) was to go online and somehow find the correct video drivers for that monitor and download/install them.

I'm sure you'll get it to work - sorry to hear about the headache.

Get a mac.

Yeah, that way you wouldn't ever be able to have to upgrade to a better video card.

Because there is no need to. :P

That's BS anyway!

Of course you can upgrade to a better video card!

Mark, I'm sure you could upgrade it since you are a l33t mac owner. But I've heard it's relatively hard to upgrade hardware inside your mac (the process, only being able to buy mac products, etc) compared to upgrading a PC.

It's no "harder" to upgrade a tower Mac than any other PC.

You pull the old card and put the new one in.

I have used a myriad of 3rd party expansion cards in various Macintosh models over the years.

From high end video card (that were not available for the PC :P ) to multi-port RS-232/422 serial IO cards, SCSI and IDE Host adapters/RAID controllers, etc.

No apology necessary, 89th. I find Mark's input on the video card issue interesting, because one of the reasons I haven't pulled the trigger on a Mac is the fact that they don't come with upper-end video cards, even as an option.

I thought Macs were supposed to be THE THING to use for graphics and stuff... Hrmmm.... I was thinking of getting one. Seriously.

Frank - I work in the Graphics field...the Mac is still the default computer to use with graphics design. I think this is because Macs for the last 10 years or so have been produced with their OS and monitors and video cards and whatever all in sync, all working to give the optimal graphics display...which of course you need during graphics design.

*However* in the last couple years, I've found it doesn't really matter if you are using a PC or Mac for graphics. Graphics programs are produced for both Macs and PCs and really both computers can create the same high-quality graphics display...it all depends on the hardware specs (monitor, graphics driver/card, etc).

Since the PC has caught up regarding graphics capabilities, it's one reason I stick with PCs...I personally find them more flexible depending on what you want to do, upgrade, etc.

My kids play some online games, Frank, that do better with higher-end cards.

The best card you can get as an option on a Mac is not a particularly great gaming card.

I can't say how it would work in other applications.

I was thinking primarily for music, but I'm getting along well with my current card and Cakewalk Sonar Home Studio. :thumb:

I think there are a couple solid software applications (for graphics, movies, music) that run really smoothly with Macs...Frank, you should look into it if you want to produce music. Macs might be the better solution for you.

I wish I could test one out. Hook my mic, guitars, sythesizer, and headphones up, and then try it out for a couple of weeks. That's unrealistic though, I suppose...

Getting back to the original question - have you changed your anti-aliasing settings? (or had them changed by the new drivers) I know this shouldn't affect 2D stuff, but I've found that enabling FSAA can sometimes screw up text.
