Okay: Now we're getting down to the crux of the matter!

WHY DOES SOMEONE ELSE'S OPINION OF US MATTER MORE THAN OUR OWN SELF-IMAGE?!

That's exactly the point. Frank. :thumb:

Maybe it's because it is shared by so many people around me that I ctually believe it myself? Try being a pagan lesbian in tiny Franconia, PA.

Aw... Just be who you are. What you believe and your orientation are really no one else's business. If THEY have an issue with it, then so they do. I have a neighbor who is such a freakin' racist, she hasn't said one word to Mari in the five years that we've lived at our present address. Not our problem. It's HERS. See?

And BTW: Please -- You've done so wonderfully... Drinking is just NOT an option. (Please please don't use anything outside of yourself as an excuse to start destroying yourself... That's just crap... And it would be sad beyond words.)

You CAN'T believe all the crap people say about you, or anyone else. Seriously, your self worth comes from inside YOU and only from inside you. It doesn't come from the guy next door or the people on the Forum or a bottle of vodke.

When it comes to your self worth--F them all. It's only what you believe about yourself that matters.

Maybe I should hope being queer will be a mental illness again, all the more reason to get drunk.

I think it's just interesting how overtime attitudes and beliefs see-saw from one extreme to another. To believe we're achieved any sort of stasis in our particular time--I think is just foolishness.

Yep. It is a pendulum. It swings one way, then the other. The first place I really notcied that was in American business.. all the fads...

Can anyone know us better, or more, than we know ourselves? If someone denigrates your character, it's more about THEM and their own bankruptcy of character. It's only about YOU if you consent to it and wear it.

WHY DOES SOMEONE ELSE'S OPINION OF US MATTER MORE THAN OUR OWN SELF-IMAGE?! WHY DO PEOPLE PIN THEIR HAPPINESS ON SOMEONE ELSE'S OPINION???

The short answer is that we've evolved to value in-group acceptance since natural selection heavily favored groups that could cohere.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

How is "lefty" derogatory? If they were called, "Liberal commie bitches," I think that would be derogatory. If someone calls me a "righty," I wouldn't consider it offensive or derogatory.

I didn't say 'lefty' was derogatory, I said Larry used it in derogatory way, often. It gets kinda old. Eyeball rolling old, not, getting my knickers in a twist old.

Sue, there are 2 things that nobody even notices anymore:

1. Larry's Left/Right ranting

2. Kenny's hybrid ranting

We have become caricatures of ourselves.

Very true. If you don't believe it, have kids and watch them make fun of you when they think you are not looking.

Then realize the core of truth in it. We are all walking caricatures...

I'm not sure we know enough about the behavioral science to make such ad hoc changes in predispositions that evolved over millions of years.

Yet.

Of course that doesn't mean one can't learn to ignore or accept the disapproval of others. Its just difficult, since it is contrary to the way in which we've evolved.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Given enough time we will surely put an end to this fiction we call humanity and be able to program out all undesirable aspects (jealous, hatred, bigotry, tax evasion, free will, love, religious impulses, family loyalties, Amway) from the self conscious biomachines.

Amway would be more beneficial.

Amway can be programmed out? I may be sold on this.

How about $cientology? I think that might be more damaging than Amway...
