I was just at the grocery store standing in line. They had this magazine on the rack. This is not a joke, or a Photoshop job. It is a real magazine that I just bought and took a pic of.

You'd think they would have seen all the different ways this could read and skipped this topic for the Idiot's Guide Series.

I can only guess it just hit the stands today and the flood of irate calls from insulted religious people have not caused it to be yanked yet. It think it is going to be worth something if I hold onto it. I wonder how many copies have been sold just for the irony value; it's a doosie! What would be REALLY ironic is if the publisher actually wasn't stupid after all and and expected to sell more copies to people who bought it just for the humor value of the cover. |

I think there will be a few anti-religion people like you who will buy it for the humor, but there are quite a few titles out there that could also fit the same bill of irony...such as the complete idiot's guide to atheism, the koran, etc...so I wouldn't "read" too much into it, Kenneth.

Ha thanks - that's an oldie (but a goodie) from the Rick Zimmer days. I hope he knows it's all in good fun. He was well aware that I disagreed with his logic process. |

Me anti-religion? I'm pro equality. The only thing I react to in religion is their intolerance. You probably don't think of yourself as anti-gay, and wouldn't appreciate the label. |

I inferred from your first post that you thought those who had faith in God were idiots, even if you thought so facetiously. Thus I concluded that you were anti-religion. Either way, dont take that term too literally...you know what I meant by it - those who would associate having faith with idiocy. |

Perhaps Kenny can clarify what "how he read it" when he saw the cover. I'm quite sure he thought it was funny that there's an idiot's guide to faith considering that some think having faith in God to be idiotic, but I've been wrong before... |

Hmm Oh Yeah. That interpretation had not occurred to me. I guess it could occur to anyone. For that reason I'd say the Publisher goofed. I think Editors are employed to keep an eye out for such things. Opps. |

kenny, you do know this is an established series of books for neophytes introducing subjects? why wouldn't faith be just another subject? |

Oh dear. This is a conversation that would have worked so much better in person. I think it's absolutely hilarious that someone would be so um, unaware, as to publish this. To think that nobody down the line picked up on the obvious gaffe is just funny. It's a poke at the editor/publisher, not at religion. |

Sure, religions are unchanged after the manifestation of this masterpiece. But their followers better be pissed. I thought for a very intense microsecond before telling the clerk to rink it up. I knew full well my $3.24 might send a message of approval to the stupid editor. But an angel appeared to me and told me the only people buying it are the smart people like me, who are buying it for the entertainment value (at least outside the Bible Belt) and she'd let the editor know. Honestly, I held it up to the checker and asked, "Is this for real? This is insulting to people of faith." THE COMPLETE IDIOT'S GUIDE TO FAITH" ???????????? Naturally he said, "Huh?" (For Crissake, he's a frigging checker) It was a wonderful moment. I love these things. Life is so fun. |

I don't see any irony at all in a book titled the Idiot's Guide to Faith. I've seen the description given by some people of what faith means. Some of them would need a book like that. |
