I finally opened this thread.

What a bunch of prudes.
The pic was tasteful.

If it was a woman it would have been no problem.
Double standard.

You might find it tasty, but I do not.

It is not a question of prudery by of consistent standards. As a basic rule, not showing full nudes or genitals is a fair line. Also, "erotic" prose does not seem to be permitted (we had some bozo who posted "erotic" prose and was shut down).

Double standard? Show me examples of female frontal nudity that have been permitted here.
The dogma lives loudly within me.

No, we would have a problem.

We don't do either around here. I am (by far,) the largest poster of "girl" pictures and I don't post anything beyond the guidlines. Thems the rules and I obey them.

kenny, don't make it into another "gay" thing.

I like nudity.
I find male and female bodies beautiful.
I liked the pic.
It was artsy & tame.
If some people here are *personally offended* with such pics, they should speak up soley for themselves.
If enough people are personally offended, perhaps such pics should be posted as links with appropriate warnings.
Btw, I thought the WTF was the "family forum". Am I wrong to assume this? There are young kids posting there. They don't post here, do they?
IMO young kidlets shouldn't venture here. It has much more to do with crude language, the arguments and subject matter.

Kenny, since I was the one who moderated the picture, I object to being called a prude and to the accusation that I apply double standards. If you post pictures of naked women, I will moderate those as well. In fact, as I have already noted, I won't moderate topless male pictures, but will when they are female, so any double standard actually applies to the male pictures being allowed more leeway.

If people feel compelled to post pictures of naked men on a piano-related board, I would suggest that they could try doing so at either WTF or at Fat Shirleys. I imagine the reaction at either of these fine establishments would be very entertaining, each in it's own way of course.

I've moderated other forums. I can tell you that it's not a case of what is personally offensive or non-offensive. The issue is that there is a set of rules in place, and the moderators are just as bound by them as the members of the forum are. The picture, in and of itself, is not the issue at hand. Your mileage may vary...

It's also worth noting that I didn't delete the picture, I just replaced it with a link, so anybody who wants to continue to look at Hairy Potter is more than welcome to. My boss, however, will not see me looking at pictures of trouser monsters when I'm supposed to be working, which is a good thing since I won't get fired.

It's just plain old common sense.

If anybody else feels like deliberately p!ssing the moderators off, please feel free to have a go. I'm free all evening.

EDIT - Oooh, look at my post count. EVIL D'OH IS HERE!!!!!!11!!

Kenny, show me one thread that has a picture of a woman, full frontal nudity - just one.
Show me any thread that has exposed female genitalia - just one.

You cant.

Because it's not there.

Beautiful or not, that's not the point. The point is that it's not permitted here, and it was (appropriately) moderated.

Seems to me that you're the one asking for a double standard. It's OK for male genitals to be exposed here, but not female.

i agree it's not that some people are "personally offended" -- there should be an understanding of the kinds of things that are postable.

FYI, there have been quite a few of breasts.
Models, artsy, young ones.
Fewer of genitalia.

Fully exposed breasts?

Fully exposed genitalia?

I must've missed 'em.

Though TomK posts probably some of the most provocative pics, they've never been full frontal nudity, unless I've missed those as well.

I have no problem with it, but, we had a long discussion about 8 months ago about what's permitted and what's not. It was my understanding that anything NSFW be labeled as such, and have a link, rather than the actual picture. Correct me if I'm wrong.

He posted a link. Not the actual photo. Daniel was TRYING to get moderated, and I think this is why he posted the image, rather than a link.

John did his job well. He played by the rules that have been set up. Want to change the rules? Fine, but don't blame the guy for doing what he has agreed to do--by the rules we agreed upon.

It's a nasty thankless job and I commend him for doing it so well.

I for one say--THANK YOU.

Ditto. Although, the moderators do get paid big bucks for it. They start out getting paid nothing, and it doubles everyday after that. :sombrero:

Thanks for the kind words, but I have to admit it's neither nasty, or thankless, or even a real job. :P

If someone would pay me to come here and smack people for trying to post trouser-monster pictures, I'd die a happy, drunken man.
