that bridge pic reminds me...

i used to cross the Broadway bridge to reach our old airport. People would gather and race/ride bicycles.

i used to cross the bridge all the time without a problem. One time i happened to look down and realized the guard rail barely came up to the bicycle pedals. I immediately freaked, got off my bike and tried my darndest not to hurl. I had to get off the bridge with my bike and i was in the middle. i somehow did it back to the beginning. the guard rail got higher as it left the center. I almost left my bike and crawled back. I have been kind of scared of bridge heights since then. I don't know if they had removed a protective fence or what. I had never noticed the potential danger before. (ignoring the sign that said no pedestrians or bikers). I drove across the bridge after that.
