I think this is very important. We must have standards, especially for food. The original mandate for the FDA was based on what was happening here a hundred years ago. Read Upton Sinclair sometime. It will make you sick. It’s a constant battle, but it’s worth being vigilant. The FDA wants to make vitamins and herbal supplements into prescription drugs. Imagine! I wonder who is behind this bit of illogical reasoning? I guess it’s big pharma. The FDA can’t even handle the food coming into this country. Why should we let them do much more? Because somebody has to. Frankly I’m pretty picky about what food I buy, or order in a restaurant. More people should get that way too. Maybe we have a few things to teach the burgeoning Chinese economy and society about healthy eating. But before we get into that we’d better make sure our own food supply is in good order. Free trade as we know has it’s risks.
