I'm looking for a dial-up service so that I can go online at our bay cottage. I'm a bit confused and thought I'd ask if anyone here is on dialup and if so, who is the provider and how do you like the service?

I'm looking at NetZero, Copper.net and LocalNet.

I used Erols until I made the switch last October. It seemed OK for what it was.

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

I just signed up for the FREE Net Zero account. That's right...FREE. The catch? You're limited to 10 hours a month and have to answer questionnaires every once in a while.

Hey, it's a second home and all I want internet for is to check emails, posts made here and to look up stuff. Ten hours is plenty, considering I'm usually there 6-8 days a month.

Does your current ISP include a dial up account? Sometimes they do.

Most of the DSL IP's give you a free dialup account as well, like 1hp said. You will absolutely HATE Netzero.... right in the middle of things, it will just close down. Sometimes when it closes down (and sometimes when you close it down on purpose) it won't completely shut down the software, and you'll have to reboot your computer to get it to shut down. You can't get it to work again until you do. I can't tell you how many times I've had a post written, hit the send button, only to have it go to that gray screen that says you have no intenet connection, and you have to reboot the computer to get back online - meaning you've lost the entire post.

I HATE Netzero.

Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, I used Earthlink for dial-up. They were acceptable.

Before Earthlink, I had Mindspring. They were wonderful, but Earthlink bought 'em out.
It would be unwise to underestimate what large groups of ill-informed people acting together can achieve. -- John D'Oh, January 14, 2010.
