I'm thinking yes.

I think so too. If I remember correctly, nobody else was in the house at the time AND it took her a frickin' long time to call for help.

 Am I a loser for knowing that?

You could never be a loser for any reason.

I'm thinking she did it because she got rid of her stepmother, got all of the money along with her sister (10 million dollars adjusted for inflation), and then moved into a mansion.

I read this internet site about it a few nights ago. It was interesting. The reasons she didn't get convicted are at least as interesting to me as the question of her guilt.

I wonder if they had golf courses then. That's probably where the real killer was. :P

I've been to New England several times. But, I've never been to the Lizzie Borden house. I would love to go there. Alas, Mark thinks I'm silly. I read a book about the murder a few years ago and it WAS interesting. Wasn't there like an hour and a half in between murders?

FWIW we did go to the actual House of Seven Gables in Salem. I loved that!

Have you ever been to New England, Daniel?

I lived in upstate New York for twelve years and that's a mid-Atlantic state (I think) but when you drive thirty-five minutes over the state line into Connecticut you are in New England. Kind of arbitrary. :P

I always wanted to visit Emily Dickinson's house and grave in Amherst, Massachusetts but I never did. I should have when I had the chance.

And yes, there was a long time between the murders. I think they did not convict her because they did not want to believe that a nice middle class woman could kill her parents. Also, there were a lot of political appointments and machinations going on apparently. I haven't read any books about it but I'd like to.

I hear she spent the rest of her life looking for the real killer.

That's it! That's what I read. All 16 pages of it.

The children's rhyme is in there somewhere. I'm thinking one of the first few pages.

Lizzie Borden took an axe
And gave her mother forty whacks.
And when she saw what she had done,
She gave her father forty-one.

I'll have to hunt for the book I read a few years ago. It was a very quick read and quite enjoyable. I got it out of the local library. Next time I go to the library, I'll look for it and post the author and title.

If you like the on-line crime library, they have some great stories of various murders in Britain. Those Brits are crazy!

Oh, and another series on child murderers. Creepy. :hair:

I think she did it. Occam's Razor. There WERE no other suspects. And if someone would have broke in and killed her whole family, why would she have been spared? It doesn't add up. Everyone in town, according to a documentary that I saw, believed she was guilty, but apparently, she never moved away, and people said she marched around town with her head held high.

If nothing else, you have to admire her chutzpah!
