Rolex. 1. Buy from authorized dealer. DO NOT buy a Rolex on Ebay 2. You will not get ripped off because Rolex sells at no less than 10% off retail (you can ask) 3. They have many classic styles (and some new ones). If you want to know which ones are which ask me. I think you would like: Explorer Air King all silver (if you want to be low key) DateJust if you want something more dressy Go to www.timezone.com See brand forums: Rolex. |

I don't wear a watch. I'm never late. I plan my appointments so I know when to leave the house or wherever I am, but refuse to have something (e.g., traffic) make me start looking at my watch every couple of minutes and worrying about being late. I know for a fact that looking at your watch every couple of minutes definitely increases traffic when you're running late, and causes more red lights. As for the aesthetics, there are some beautiful watches of course. Never could quite figure what was so special about Rolex though. The ones I have seen (though I'm not really the type to notice someone's watch anyway) seem rather plain. |

Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool. I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. I am with you -- I don't wear a watch. I rarely need to be anywhere on time. If I am running late I call ahead and let them know. Simple. |

I used a Timex Expedition all throughout high school for track and cross country. The only problem I ever had with it was wearing out the band. I wore that thing nonstop for years, and eventually the band rotted through and the thing just fell off my wrist  I just use my cell phone now. |

me too. well, with the watch choice and cell phone usage, I mean. I washed the strap once, sensing it's, uh, ripeness. don't recommend that, buy a new strap, or watch instead. Between my cell phone and all the other time pieces available, I don't miss wearing a watch. |

How can one be proud of a watch? Perhaps one can be proud of an achievement commemorated or symbolised by a watch, but certainly not be proud of the watch itself, no? Or do you see owning a watch as an achievement worthy of pride all by itself? |

Ax, I am proud of my watch (above). Can a person be proud of a piano, a car, a house? It's pride of ownership. I thought Katie's post earlier was dead on. |

Right. Now show me a Timex that can do it without having to pick up a radio signal that is available only where radio propagation permits. I have one of those hanging on my wall and it gets confused with every switch between daylight and standard. It does keep pretty accurate time as long as I keep it next to a window. Leave the continental US and you have a plain old Timex. |

When it comes to watches... not really. From http://www.askmen.com/fashion/fashiontip_1...ion_advice.html : "Is a Rolex worth the high price? There are two possible answers to this question, and I still haven't figured out which one is right. Why do some people automatically say "no"? Because the Rolex corporation artificially inflates the price of its watches by limiting the yearly supply of some of its collections (the Daytona is notorious for being near impossible to find), leading to scarcity in the market. It is a strategy similar to the one employed by De Beers, the world's largest diamond retailer, which limits the supply of diamonds on the market to keep prices high (even if De Beers has plenty stored in its safes). (Not to mention the oil companies!) ![]() Rolex also meticulously (and some say dictatorially) controls its authorized dealer system to make sure that all watches are sold at its suggested retail price. Any dealer that sells a Rolex at a discount is subject to having his dealer status revoked. So since it is nearly impossible to get a new real Rolex at a discount, you will always pay a premium for the name (thanks to smart marketing by Rolex execs) and not necessarily for the craftsmanship (though it is still very high). That is why many watch experts say that, for the cost of a Rolex, you can get a higher caliber mechanical watch from a different company." |

I don't recall saying I owned a Rolex. If you want to put up that strawman I would be glad to help you knock it down. Rolex is way overpriced. However I was talking about a TAG, remember? And with a TAG I get dead nuts accuracy, a sapphire crystal, good to 200 m and a watch that feels like a watch and not something I got in a box of Post Toasties. |

I was refuting your statement in general, not in particular. I know lots of people who are happy with their TAGs. If you are with yours, more power to you. katie's post earlier was correct. I don't even wear a watch. |

But my statement was not made in general. It was made in response to your specific reference, "Show me a Tag that costs $45". With a TAG you do get what you pay for. That is why I don't own a Rolex. |
