For some reason best known to themselves, the yanks don't celebrate the late Royal Majesties birthday. Come to that, neither do the Brits.
What do you mean "we", have you got a mouse in your pocket?

Yep, May long weekend. Queen Victoria's birthday.

We're celebrating here as usual with rain truning to snow overnight.

Here in BC this is the traditional first camping weekend of the summer....and you can almost guarantee it'll rain. Part of the fun. Oh, and huge massive freakin' overloads on all the ferries.
So I'm staying home. :P

It's actually supposed to be a beautiful weekend here - odd, because as Sue says, it's always cold and rainy to thwart the camping types!

Our long weekend is next week. Memorial Day.

There is a line we cross when we go from "I will believe it when I see it" to "I will see it when I believe it".

What Riley said: to all our Canadian friends, Happy Victoria Day (no, John, that does not include you! - you're a faux Canadian).

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

And long live the queen & all that ..
We'll be avoiding the garden center here btw.
No one plants annuals here til after Vicky's Monday b/c digging up earth prior to May long weekend produces a blizzard. We've had plenty of immigrants this year. They seem to be gardeners. Thus our weather will suck.

Huh? You celebrate Victoria's Birthday? That was never a holiday when I was a kid...but May 24th was - it was called "Empire Day" when I was a kid. Nowadays, as the empire is no more, it's called "Bermuda Day".

In the UK I suspect this Monday is "May bank holiday"?

(yes, yes, my dearly beloved granny, my mum’s mum, was born on May 24th so her mummy and daddy gave her the middle name Victoria. Her parents were both born in Canada but my granny was born in Minneapolis. Oh and she’d be proud of me for choosing tea over coffee – her favorite was something like Murchie’s Queen Victoria blend too – or something like a nice Darjeeling …Happy Victoria Day everyone! … oh drat, it’s my ^@#$% 56th birthday on Monday! Old as Beethoven now.)

(Old as Beethoven now.)

That's OK, when Schubert was my age, he had been dead for 26 years.
