Interesting, although what is the rationale for not going with biodiesel? I'm not sure which one is better, but for a diesel market, I would think biodiesel would be the way to go...not only for lower viscosity, but also for the renewable aspect? |

Nice to see we are finally getting away from the stereotype of hybrid meaning wimpy passenger crackerbox. Hybrid means recovering and using ANY moving vehicle's kinetic energy instead of wasting it by heating up brake pads. There is no reason even a Hummer can't benefit from hybrid technology. |

[for 89th] Probably because of limited availability of bio-diesel at this point in time. It's not either-or because diesel-powered hybrid vehicles can certainly be made to run on bio-diesel. Transit vehicles seem like a natural for hybrids because of the frequent start-stop operation. Years ago, a bus was tested in NYC with a large flywheel running in an evacuated chamber to store energy as the bus slowed and return it for acceleration. A hybrid vehicle with a different energy storage mechanism than batteries. Big Al |

Hamilton, ON, where I live, recently purchased 12 Hybrid buses. Besides being very new and clean inside, they also seem significantly quieter. |
