HOLY CARP!!!
|
I will be rebuilding out school website over the summer. Our goal is to make it very easy to update, to allow each teacher to have a seperate page to post classroom news and homework, to publish our monthly newsletter, post pictures and assignments as well as school initiatives, and to of course give relevant links to the school board, curriculum documents, etc. As a parent, is there anything you'd want to see on your child's school's website? |

In our districts, our grade school teachers each have their own page -- this is a new feature this year. They update what is going on in the class room, so the parents can check. Kinda neat. |

Prominent links to the school phone numbers, and the schedule. That's what I go to the website most frequently for. E-mail addresses would be nice too, as would a listing of who is responsible for what. (I.e., so and so is the gym teacher, so and so handles special ed, the school counselor is X, etc.) A prominent link to a FAQ is always a good idea, too. It's also nice if the home page can be updated easily and remotely for weather-related events and such, so parents can see quickly if the school is closed that day. If I think of more, I'll add it later. |

Full year calendar, including dates of breaks, parent/teacher meetings, pro-d days, etc. Special events (concerts, exams, etc.) Up to date information!! Teachers who actually update their sites!!!!! I gather this is just an extra chore for already overworked teachers, and I understand that, but boy, the teachers that do keep current sure make a difference. I guess I'm referring mostly to high school, but an up to date class website, with important dates, homework, links, etc. is a goldmine. |

Sue described what I meant by the schedule much better than I did. |

Ok - so far, everything is in the works, so it sounds like I'm on the right track. ![]() I keep my classroom page pretty frequently updated, but alas, not many parents use it. Next year, with the school site redesign, we're hoping that will change. |

Also, the NEXT year's school calendar. Whenever I got to plan a vacation for the next year, I spend hours hunting that down. I know for a while it's merely "proposed" and then eventually it becomes final, but to be able to see it is helpful. |

Yup, it was said: "Phone #'s", posted up top & prominent. Right after that I need to see: "What's Due: Today's Homework Page". Truly, this is all I look for nowadays. I spend too much time on the computer. The last place I want to log into is my kid's school. I want *face time* with my kid when he's home. I only appreciate the essentials with a school or class web site. I can't stand newsletters either. I don't do teacher email either. Yuckers +++ . Just me with ADD though. I'm sure every normal parent loves these things. |

Thanks for the suggestion, apple, but we want more flexibility than that. I already know which content management system I'll be using, and have started playing with it. |
