My two cents, in case anyone's interested: I very much support this bill. Now dont get me wrong, ideally I would round up all illegal immigrants from any country and deport them in a heartbeat. But that IS NOT REALISTIC! Since deporting them all isn't an option (since we probably couldn't find 5% of them anyway!) unless a immigration reform bill is passed like the one we are talking about now, the borders would still be permeable and the illegals in this country would stay in hiding indefinitely. So now with this bipartisan bill, we take steps to securing the border, give illegals (that entered before Jan 1st of this year) the opportunity to come forward and become citizens after they pay a hefty fine (punishment), go back to their country within 8 years and officially apply for citizenship (not amnesty), and immigrants will have to pass a series of aptitude tests, (english-speaking, no criminal record, job skills). In my opinion, this bill hits does EXACTLY what is needed to address the problem without unrealistic mass deportation or mass amnesty. |

And it is totally unrealistic. 89th you're an idealist, not a realist. |

Must have been all that Guinness you drank recently. I heard it can give you an overly optimistic outlook on life. |

Well, Guinness or not...I dont think its unrealistic. I dont think it will work as smoothly as it looks on paper, but I can't really think of any other solution. Well actually I guess we could close the border, and come down UBER-hard on any employers or tenants helping illegal immigrants. That would squeeze them out and would solve the problem within a generation or two....but that's pretty far-fetched. |

That's precisely what should happen. Immigrate legally, or stay the fcuk OUT. |

Until the US government goes after the real villains in this story, namely the companies who are employing these 12 million people, nothing much will happen, IMO. |

I agree. Chop the head off the snake and it dies. |
