Cheers
So did you decide to pick up the McCullough bio of Truman?
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Yes I did. On audio. It's huge read listen - about 48 hours. But, that's OK. Started it middle of last week, and with my commute being only 17 minutes each way, it's going to be a while for me to finish it. However, I am enjoying very much so far (Harry's father just died). I need to take a road trip so I can get some more reading done!

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

George, I never picked up those audio lectures that you had recommended, but I keep carrying them around in my bookmarks.

However, I was at Barnes & Noble last week, and there's a whole shelf of similar stuff, probably private labelled by Barnes & Noble. It's becoming quite the cottage industry, I guess. They were cheaper ($40 each, iirc) .... but many of the professors were people at obscure unis.

The Teaching Company has each item on sale once a year. The trick is to keep following to see when what you want is on sale. At the moment, all 10 composers' biographies are on sale for $200. That's 80 CD's - each course is 6 hours. Not too bad. Symphonies of Beethoven is now at $90 for 32 CD's.

Great Presidents is now on sale for $90 as well.

Then there's always eBay..... :sombrero:

Quirt, I have taken Teaching Company courses as well, and I highly recommend them.

Thanks, guys. I think I will try one. European history? The history of China? The choices are overwhelming.

The other thing that you can do is rip the lectures to MP3 and put them on your iPod for listening when not in your car. I do it at work when between cases. People ask what I'm listening to (usually with only one earbud in my ear) and when I say "a lecture" I get the queer weird look.

These lectures made me look forward to my weekly drive to Chicago and back.
