It would be unwise to underestimate what large groups of ill-informed people acting together can achieve. -- John D'Oh, January 14, 2010.

Perle has a right to defend himself, particularly with the way Tenet characterized, or mischaracterized, him.

You need to go back to what set Bin Laden and his associates off, our presence in Saudi Arabia and our support of Israel. from there it is easy to see WHY we were in Saudi - because of Hussein's regime, a destabilizing force in the region. So, assuming one wants to remove the irritant, Saddam had to go.

Addd note: We now have only about 500 trainers in Saudi Arabia, down from a high of 10,000 troops at he outset of hostilities in Iraq in 2003. There are, or were, about 4,500 troops in Quatar.

For years the American intelligence establishment has failed to show meticulous regard for the facts that are essential to its mission. The CIA's assessment that Hussein possessed chemical and biological weapons was only the most recent damaging example.

....

George Tenet and, more important, our premier intelligence organization managed to find weapons of mass destruction that did not exist...

Larry, George, and crew: maybe you need to send Mr. Perle all your evidence of WMD in Iraq. (and to Bush, while you're at it)

For those of you who don't want to read the whole piece, let me paraphrase it for you.

Perle: "Tenet lied. Moonpies fried."
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

I am so adjective that I verb nouns!
The bottom line:
Quote:

Careful readers will see at once that what Tenet calls "corroboration" is nothing of the sort. But Tenet is not a careful reader -- a serious deficiency in a CIA director and a catastrophe for an intelligence organization. Indeed, sloppy analysis and imprecision with evidence got Tenet and the rest of us stuck in a credibility gap that continues to damage our foreign policy.

I think Bill Clinton and the man he appointed as the DCI already did that.

Are we talking about the guy Clinton appointed to DCI or the guy Bush awarded the Medal of Freedom to? To be perfectly honest I sometimes confuse the two gents myself....

Anyway, whomever we're talkng about... its clear that the last 3 years or so both Bush and Perle have considered his evidence to be completely untrustworthy.

Yet in the last 12-18 months you and Larry have seen evidence that there were WMD in Iraq, evidence missed by our ill-advised President and our hapless leader of the neo-cons. I think you could really do these chaps some good by sharing your bullet-proof evidence with them. May the force be with them, as it were.

WMD.

No WMD.

It's all arguing over spilled milk, when you can't argue convincingly about the nature of the milk.

I kinda like it that old Sadaam lies a' moulderin' in the grave. I think the world is a better place for it. I kinda like the fact we had something to do with it.
