I remember a friend of mine in the 80's writing a check for a Yugo. Problem was the Yugo was not a reliable car.

The Yugo was, in fact, a disposable car.

There is a line we cross when we go from "I will believe it when I see it" to "I will see it when I believe it".

It needed a new clutch at about 4,000 miles. It was ridiculous.

kenny may not like this, but I think this is a positive development.

And if the car can pass a crash test, I think they'd sell like hotcakes in the U.S....

Actually these cars are being made for India and China.

The effect will be to raise global oil demand - by a lot.

What will that do to the importance of being in Iraq?

And a $3,000 car in India won't be considered disposable.

I can't find the mileage numbers for these little cars anywhere, has anyone found an mpg number?
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

As I was reading through the article, one of the links talked about a 1.0 L engine getting about 36 mpg.

I think this is a positive trend also. I would like a good gas mileage vehicle to drive to work and back, but don't want to fork out another $20,000 - $30k for a car. My wife won't let me get a motor cycle. I would also like a cheap car with a stick shift so I can teach my daughter's to drive a manual transmission.

Only caveat - with the cars really being at the disposable level - I hope the material selection is such that they can easily be recycled into new cars again.

No jab.

I think your position on fuel economy, allocation of petro-resources and global warming are fairly well known.

Unless I'm mistaken, and you wish to comment upon this new development in the world of autodom...
