I'll be in Big Al and R2 land by late this evening.

If I get a chance, I will check in. It may be impossible.

Do you know when your troupe will be dancing yet? I checked the Benedum schedule and see performances every night from Tuesday through Saturday.

Hi Al,

Our girls dance Friday evening. You'd love it...it's a beautifully choreographed piece called "Tribute" in memory of those lost on Sept 11 2001. It's set to Barber's Adagio for Strings.

gotta splits, I can only connect in the lobby.

As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

Hello, Deb,

I picked up a pair of tickets for my wife and I to attend Friday night's performance.

If there's a gap in your schedule and/or chaperone duties after the show, phone me or drop a PM my way and maybe we can meet for a drink.

I remember many moons ago, Mrs. Dewey & I saw Christopher Plummer and Glenda Jackson in "Macbeth" at the Benedum. Our seats were hardly the most expensive, but they weren't bad - but there just wasn't enough knee room between the rows of seats. I had to sit diagonally in my seat the whole performance. Grr. At least the play was great.

Dewey -

I saw the Magic Flute there recently and was noticing that, too. I guess people were smaller when they bolted those chairs in place. Heinz Hall is better if you stay on the floor, those balcony seats have your knees in your ears too, I noticed.

Hey, did anyone else hear on the radio today that Pittsburgh was rated the most livable city  I think we get rated highly b/c we have some good public schools, quality arts, and you can get a big house here for what it costs to buy a latte in San Francisco.

Heh, the mayor might not remember the last time it earned that rating, but I sure do!

Yeah, well, since the mayor is about twelve years old, that's his problem. I remember, and it WAS a big deal. Of course then we were closer to the collapse of the steel industry, so the fact that anyone noticed us or liked us surprised us. Those of us who live here have always felt like the 'burgh is the best-kept secret. WE always knew it was a great place to live, we were just surprised that anyone noticed. ^_^

Almanac or no, coming out of the Fort Pitt Tunnel and having the city burst into view is the greatest entry into any city in the country, bar none.

Especially if it's 8:00am on a Sunday in the late Fall, and you emerge from the tunnels to face an early morning mist resting over the city, and an inexplicable pull drags your car toward parking lot C on the North Shore. In your trunk rests every variety of kilbasa, chips, and face paint your wife could find yesterday at the Giant Eagle. The lawn chairs are packed, there is ice in the cooler, and all is well with the world. The quiet over the city is soon to be broken by the sounds of hundreds of aluminum cans releasing their carbonated sighs. The Iron City will flow, as it has for years, with the same grace and fluidity as the Mon at your side. All is right in the city, and victory is sure to be yours.

That's what they mean, when they refer to our culture, right? The symphony is all right, but those Steeler polkas are one-of-a-kind.
