HOLY CARP!!!
Eleven was at Girl Scouts this evening, with her best friend Cara. Cara is a regular at our place, as Eleven is at Cara's. Cara's parents are divorced, and half the time she lives with Mom in a nearby town, and the other half of the time she lives with Dad, who lives with his parents just a short distance from us. I had just seen Cara's Dad and little sister waiting for the Scout meeting to be over.

About fifteen minutes ago, Cara called to tell Eleven that her grandfather - her Dad's father - and another man had been killed in a private plane crash.

Cara is obviously very upset, and so is Eleven. She has spent the night at Grandpa's many times, and she knew him very well. I think this is the first person that she realy knew well who's died, and it's even worse that it happened this way. She's sitting on the couch crying right now.

This has been a very bad day.

Not that it gets any easier, but the first time you lose someone that you really knew is a surreal, sad, but very growing experience. My condolences, Dewey, to you and yours.

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

Hopefully your child can be of some comfort to this poor child who lost her grandfather in such a terrible way. She will need her, for sure.
