HOLY CARP!!!
Hi dol, I know you are a fan of a lot of YA fiction, so I'd appreciate your suggestions. I've just started a YA services library course, where we will be reading/evaluating/discussing new boundaries/styles, etc., in YA writing. I have to read (and discuss) 5 books from different genres.
Just wondering if you have any titles that pop into your head as being particularly good!

I just read your other thread; sorry you are feeling so crappy! Maybe just think about it a bit, and get back to me when you feel better. ^_^

Hi Sue,

Sorry, I am not Dol but I saw your thread. Have you come across books by Liz Berry? - They may not be what you are looking for as they are not that new, but they are brilliant YA books.

I first came across Liz Berry in the YA section of the local library when I was about 16. On display was a book which had a guitar on the cover, and someone drawing. As I played the guitar and drew, I borrowed out the book, Easy Connections. That night I read and read until the book was finished and the next day I bought my own copy. Easy Connections contains a rape and as a result it was later banned from a lot of libraries.

My favourite Liz Berry book is The China Garden. It's kind of an "environmental" book and very topical for the world we live in, I think.

Thanks, Andrea. This is a great start, I don't know the author, or the books, so it will be fun checking them out. The controversial subject matter in Easy Connections is perfect; I have decided to focus an assignment on just that issue, and considering the book isn't new, it's a perfect place to start.

The China Garden sounds really good, and I'm going to hunt down a copy today!

Thanks!

Cool, Sue! I only hope you enjoy the books half as much as I do!
