Some people at work are raving about how good the HBO series "Rome" is. Anybody have any thoughts? Could it possibly be anywhere nearly as good as "The Sopranos" (which was great last night, by the way)? |

I'm guilty George. I've watched both seasons and found it a bit addicting. It's basically a soap opera about the elites of Rome, as well as a couple of soldiers, during and after the reign of Julius Caesar. Similar to the Sopranos in the sense of the violence that surrounds them. Some really great acting IMO, the cast is all British. James Purefoy is great as Marc Antony. Kind of funny, all those Italians with British accents. |

Wife loves it, but I think it's cause she has a crush on one of the dudes. Keeps asking me why I've never been fitted for armor  |

Steve Reeves, oiled up as usual, would have been right at home. Ugh. |

I'm a huge Sopranos fan and I wouldn't go so far as putting Rome in the same league. Its a highly dramatized version of history and can be fairly inaccurate at times. That said, the show does try to give the viewer a real sense of what day to day Roman life was like. The set design, costumes, and decorum in general is pretty great. The show really tries to focus on the characters, as the plot is already pretty well known. All in all, I found it thoroughly entertaining. I'd recommend it. |
