"Any man who would make an X rated movie should be forced to take his daughter to see it". - John Wayne

There is a line we cross when we go from "I will believe it when I see it" to "I will see it when I believe it".

Eleanor: At my age there's not much traffic anymore.

Thank you, JB.

In Quirt's thread 'It's good to be Wolfowitz's girlfriend' I posted:

Quote:

What was she on loan to the State Department for? I wonder if others who serve the public sector have similar arrangements.

Many things look a lot worse on the face than in context.

And

Quote:

The type of arrangement I am speaking of crosses party lines and may not be uncommon vis a vis people who interrupt their carreer one place to serve in the public sector in some way.

I'm not defending or condemning anyone. All I am saying is one needs to know the context and 'The Rest of the Story' before rushing to judgement on the basis of sound bytes.

For which I was called blinded by party loyalty and greeted with derision. I'll be waiting for apology, particularly from Mark. But I won't hold my breath.

I usually find that the people most hasty to condemn the actions of people at the top echelons in government and industry are those who have had the least contact with that type of person. You don't rise to the top of corporations, financial institutions and government agencies by being unprincipled and outside the rules. For that you have to be elected.

I Owe It All To John D'Oh
As I said, in the other thread, it's not as bad as it first appears.

It's still bad, though. Particularly because your cite omits part of the story.

For example, Wolfowitz originally volunteered to recuse himself from all contact with her at the Bank. That offer was accepted by the Bank. He then RESCINDED the offer, in a letter from his lawyer, in all capital letters, insisting that he must retain professional contact with her.

The story also fails to note that, while a salary increase was approved, the salary increase that Wolfowitz ordered was nearly 50% ... way outside of the norm and in contravention of the Bank's guidelines.

It appears the story has some of its own bias, eh?

That said, everything I've read suggests that part of the flap here is an attempt by other countries to punish the Bush Administration for its arrogance and heavyhandedness. So, apparently, it isn't only about Wolfowitz, it's also about power politics.
It would be unwise to underestimate what large groups of ill-informed people acting together can achieve. -- John D'Oh, January 14, 2010.

No. Believe it or not, that's not how it works.

For what it's worth, Quirt, and I think you know this, I was not referring to you.

But there is no scandal here.
