Notorious meat and potatoes kind of guy. Never got my fair intake of veggies or fruit on a daily basis. Coming to believe it is pretty important to get more of this in the diet. My holistic budhist vegetarian mother, has ordered me to make a special shake to drink every morning. I've been at it for 5 days now and Ihave to admit, I feel better, healthier. I feel like I'm in a Wallace and Grommit movie with all the veggies I'm getting now. Here;s the recipe: it;s for 2 servings. Oh, and it MUST be organic, so says my ma. 1 leaf chard 6 leaves kale 6 leaves red lettuce 6 leaves lettuce or spinach handful of parsley 3 celery stalks 3 oranges 1 grapefruit 1 lemon 1 cup berries 1 cup of water I mix the veggie stuff in a food processor, mix the fruit in the blender then add the veggies to the blender for final mixture. It's really not that bad to drink. Goes down easy. One serving appears to be about 32 ounces of shake. It does take a few minutes to drink the whole thing. I save the other half for the next morning. |

I like all those things separately, but together? I don't see any black fruits. Go to Costco and buy their INCREDIBLE giant blackberries. Best I ever had. Been eating them like they are going out of style. |

yum, I will! I love blackberries but can't find any good ones around here. Haven't tried costco yet... Mos of the ones I try are huge and flavorless (apparently they selectively breed them that way because the huge/flavorless strain looks good and is easy to grow unlike the smaller/delicious strain). |

I did mention berries in my ingredients. Currently using bags of frozen mixed (red, black, blue) berries. I'll have to check out the Costco ones, but like Horace says, this time of year most big berries are pretty to look at but lacking in the sweet department. The blacks grow out here wild all over. Late summer is when they get ripe and mmmm mmm good. Dad had a cobbler recipe that with a scoop of vanilla, was pure heaven. |

We have a juicing machine and often combine veges and fruits together. You would be surpised but carrots and apples together are quite good with a little green stuff tossed in. |

That sounds really good, apple. So refreshing. Do you grow your own mint? My favourite is carrot with granny smith apples and celery. Yum. |
