Very good article, and a fine vehicle for introducing the concept of each side's mythologies.

You would think that at some point, pretty much any of the proposals that were even marginally acceptable would be superior to the status quo. It is sad for the families on both sides.

I suspect that majorities feel this way. The problem is there are those on each side (as well as outsiders) that prefer status quo to anything less than total victory (however they define it).

In my defense, I was left unsupervised.
