Would it be too dangerous to go on my own?

x

Ermmm...I would say yes. And, as you said, not as fun.

Do you want to come with me, Miriam? We could make it such a fun trip!! :excited: ^_^

That would be sooooo much fun! And I will be in England (hopefully) the very end of June/beginning of July. But, I already have a sort of planned trip to Verdun :(

What about that boyfriend of yours?
And how are you today?

You think my parents would let me go away for a dirty weekend in Paris with my boyfriend?

Yeah right.... I may have turned 18, but they are FAR too conservative to ever let me do that. Those kind of frolickings will have to wait until i get to uni and am no longer living under their roof. ^_^

MP,
I can understand your friend's position. I was supposed to go to England right after university with a friend, but ran into the same problem. Part of my problem, though, was that my friend had a lot more money than me, and refused to stay in inexpensive hotels, take an inconviently timed flight, wanted everything (day trips, etc) arranged by travel agents which packed the schedule with expensive side-trips, etc. She wasn't willing to compromise on that, where as I might have been able to handle it if we had gone to the inexpensive hotel our agent suggested, took the bizarrely timed flight, and did a lot more wandering around than day-tripping.

Are there any compromises that you could make? I can't remember how close you are to London (my Brit geography sucks) but is there any way you could do a mini-break kind of trip to Paris that they often offer over weekeneds - maybe shortening the time you're there to cut the costs. Not ideal, but it may mean she could go...

Whatever you do, don't pressure her. If she's come to you and said that it's not affordable, she's probably embarrassed about having to say that. Just bring it up and tell that you really would love to go, and you know it won't be the same without her. Would there be any way, if it were scaled back, that she could afford to make a smaller trip of it.

Thinking of cheap and stuff, couldn't you drive over and stay at a hostel?

I''m as much as a cheap skate as the next person! :P

I'd be taking flights with easyjet which are comes to a total of £50 return, all inclusive (which, for a return flight including tax is utterly fantastic).

I don't want to stay in fancy hotels. I'm looking for somewhere cheap and clean. They are my only two needs from accomodation. And it would only be for a few nights.

I don't mind organising our itinerary so i wuldn't need anything to do with a travel agent.

I'm not really sure what else i can offer. I'm happy scruffing it with a bag of chips from a street corner chip shop as an evening meal even. (I'm a true Geordie bird :sombrero: :P )

The problem i face is that, well, my friend doesn't like roughing it. She likes expensive things and fancy hotels and posh restaurants and i think she only wants to do it if we can do it that way - which, she can't afford. And to be honest, i wouldn't really want to. I'm going to see the city, to not stay in a posh hotel.

So, i don't know.... I'm not pressurising her at all and i understand theposition she is in. It just would have been nicer is she could have told me earlier, when i could have found someone else to go with...

Ah, well, you may be on your own then. It's really hard when the person who is having the money issues is the one who wants the luxery stuff.

I'd love to go with you, but I don't think I could get a flight for 50 pounds! Tee hee!

Have your friend hit TomK up for a loan. He's loaded, you know.
One really good pic and a great sob story is all it might take. ^_^

I say Tom should pay for his photography models a healthy sum on top of all expenses incurred on the trip to Paris for their photo shoot!

YAY!!!!!

I was asking around my friends today and i found three guys who haven't got anything booked yet but wanted to do something like this. They were thiking about going to Rome (they are cultured, interlectual guys - not the kind that appreciate places like Ibiza) but i managed to persuade them to come to Paris with me instead! ^_^ :singdance: :P

We were looking at flights today and are going to go for about 4 or 5 days and now all that is left to do is find accomodation!!

Yay!!! I get to go to Paris now!!!!!

Yay!!!

Yay!!!!

WooHOOOOO!!

Adam's mam (one of the guys i'm going with) is like the ultimate GURU for finding cheap hotels online and she has found us a CRACKING deal on a hotel.

It is right beside the Eiffel Tower and it is only going to cost us each £93 for 5 nights!!

It normally costs over £200 but the hotel is currently on a special offer deal with EasyJet, who we are flying with so we get to stay in a luxury hotel for practically NOTHING!!

OMG! I'm so excited!! I think we are goingto book it tomorrow!!!

Flights only cost £50 and accomdation is £93. That's £143 for 5 nights in central Paris in a swanky hotel!! Our budget was £300 so now we have loads of cash to sightsee and sample lots of good food and wine!! :singdance:

:excited:

Is easyjet pretty reliable, schedule/reservation wise? We're looking at a quick trip elsewhere, after Paris.

RyanAir is REALLY cheap! It's like a bus service. My dad, brother and I watched them land one plane, unload it, do a quick clean, then we got on..all in about 45 minutes.

My brother got a round trip ticket from Stanstead to Turin for 1p! Of course the taxes make it about 24 pounds, but WOW! It's more expensive for him to drive to London than to fly to Italy!
And how are you today?

That's the good thing with EasyJet. The fares are a little dearer than RyanAir but the taxes are MUCH less.

A single to Paris is £11.99 and the tax is £10. So, it works out pretty much the same but EasyJet do much more flights out of Newcastle than RyanAir do.

They are completely reliable (i've flown with them about a dozen times and they have never once been late or lost my baggage) and just generally BRILLIANT! especially when you can then go on to get deals like this on a good hotel!!! :singdance:

It truely is incredibly that i can fly to Paris for less than the cost of half a tank of Petrol.
