No, the proper parallel for what you say would be to call it the "Republic" party. Otherwise, how does it feel to be Larry's parrot? |

I'm not familiar with what issue you have with Larry regarding the names. Does he also call it the Democrat Party? Secondly, you wouldn't change it from Republican to Republic Party, so why do you change it from Democrat to Democratic Party? The adjective should stay the same if you are describing yourself or describing the party. PS. If you haven't realized yet, I'm giving you a hard time. |

Yes, Larry has used that term for a long time. Quirt, most notably, has ridden Larry's case about it. Points off for bad parsing. In the example I used, the suffix(or lack of it) modifies the root word the same way. The example you created just shows redundancy.PS. In case you haven't noticed, I'm just giving it back. |

I call it the democrat party because it is made up of democrats. I call the republican party the republican party because it is made up of Republicans. It isn't the party of the democratics, it's the party of the democrats. Therefore, it is the democrat party. The reason you leftwing fruitcakes don't like someone calling it the democrat party is twofold - first, you're ashamed of being democrats, and I don't blame you. Second, you like to think of yourself as being democratic - and you are so far from being democratic that it gives yet another reason to not call your party the democratic party. You're democrats. A mishmash of communists, socialists, godless heathens, touchy feely halfwits, and a smattering of decent people who are confused about what the word "liberal" means. Do you understand it now? |

Wow, how have I not seen Larry talk about this or at least someone challenge on this? I honestly did not know. I have always called it the Democrat party out of spite. A little combo of what larry said as well as my logic about its status as an adjective!

Actually, grammatically, 89th is exactly correct. The parallel terms would be "Democrat" and "Republican" (i.e., nouns describing people who stand for one or the other form of governance). The parallel for "Republic" is "Democracy" (nouns that are descriptors of the forms of governance themselves). So there.
