HOLY CARP!!!
|
This Christmas, I was given a gift set of bathroom stuff. In the gift set was shower gel, aftershave, and a spray tube that says "Eau de Toillette". Maybe my French is rusty, but that sounds to me like "toilet water". All this came in a lovely little travel pouch. I was told by the gift giver that i use the shower gel with my loofah. I did not own a loofah, nor did I have any idea what that meant. I looked it up online(Google: loofa // "Did you mean Loofah?"). Apparently, it is one of those little spongy things you sometimes see in bathrooms. I wasn't sure where you would find such a thing, but I thought I'd try the pharmacy. They carry all sorts of bathroom ****. So I got myself 'a loofah', and tested it this evening. It worked okay, albeit a little scratchy. Now my questions. What makes using this 'shower gel' beneficial over good old soap? How much do you put on the 'loofah'? How often do you need to replace the 'loofah'? Do you just machine wash it every so often? Do any of you prefer the 'shower gel' method of self cleansing? |

Wait...back up. You use Blistex AND you own a loofah Just Kidding! I have never tried machine washing loofahs...I just let them dry in the shower/bathroom area. Replace them when they get gross. I use soap and gel, depending on my mood that morning. |

I like shower gel. Most bar soaps make me break out in a rash. Gels don't seem to do that, they double as shampoo and are way easier to carry in a gym bag than bar soap. The water here is hard as hell, and gels rinse off cleaner/don't scum up the shower as much. No loofah, though. |

That's called 'exfoliation'... getting rid of dead skin cells. (I can't believe a post like yours didn't contain the word 'exfoliate' !) I love my loofah and I like gel. I have one of those push-button shower soap dispensers that deposits a measured dab of gel on my loofah. Actually, a I have 3-dispenser unit: Shampoo, Conditioner, Gel.
That's right! 'Toillette' meaning something like 'tart myself up'. You got yourself some 'Eau de tart myself up' ! |

I'm addicted to this stuff. It smells just like a hot cinnamon bun while you bathe, but you don't smell like that all day. An added plus...no calories!

The luffas (from Arabic لوف; also spelled loofah or loofa) are tropical and subtropical annual vines comprising the genus Luffa. The fruit of at least two species, L. acutangula and L. aegyptiaca, is grown to be harvested before maturity and eaten as a vegetable, sometimes called Chinese okra, popular in Asia and Africa. L. acutangula is also known as Ridge Gourd and is called si1gua1 in Mandarin Chinese, jhingey in Bengali, turai in Hindi, heeray kAyi in Kannada, wetakolu in Sinhala, patola in Tagalog, and kabatiti in Ilocano, gambas or oyong in Indonesia. The fruit of L. aegyptiaca may also be allowed to mature and used as a bath or kitchen sponge after being processed to remove everything but the network of xylem. This version is called dhundul in Bengali, ghiya tori or nerua in Hindi or "peerkankai" in Tamil or "beera kaya" in Telugu Luffa species are used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species including Hypercompe albicornis. |

I use shower gel or proper carbolic soap with a "net sponge" or "lather net". I don't know if you have them over in the US. |

Riley, you are so cute.. i grew loofahs one year.. still have about 20 of them - those nylon gauze balls work too. one advantage of shower gel is that it does not leave soap deposits on the shower walls and door. |

I can't tolerate any scent with synthetic ingredients (they all smell like nail polish remover...or worse) but this is all natural and I just love the spicy hyacinth scent. I use it all the time!

I just took a shower and used soap AND gel! As it turns out, my mom used all the shampoo, and didn't tell me, so I used gel as a shampoo...my hair feels minty fresh!

You should look at lush.com. They have AMAZING gels, shampoos, and soaps, and it's all natural. They also have toothpaste, and deodorants, although I haven't been brave enough to try those... |

I use one of those lather puff thingies. I prefer them to loofahs - I find loofahs a bit too harsh. Interesting, Riley, that you got all of this stuff to make you smell nice. Perhaps the giver either has a crush on you and wants that particular scent to go with the crush? Either that, or she just thinks you're stinky.

phykell, I googled that, and it appears to be the same thing I have. SEE LW... phykell has one too. Maybe it's not a loofah. If a loofah is a plant. What I have feels like something made in a factory. |
