Featured Teacher; why do I agree to this stuff?

HOLY CARP!!!
I have a kid from each of my classes be the Featured Student each week. They do a bulletin board about themselves and their interests, and then give a short oral presentation about what they have on display. The kids love it and are eager for their turn. I told them I wouldn't choose a Featured Student for this first week back, because I knew they'd forget over the holidays. They asked if I would do a bulletin board about myself. I agreed.

I went to my folks and grabbed all my photo albums and am trying to put together a collection of photos that won't be terribly embarrassing.

Um, yeah. That's a tall order.

One of my colleagues attended the school we teach at, and the kids get no end of pleasure out of making fun of her grade 8 graduation picture that still hangs in the hallway. :P

What have I gotten myself into?

I'm sure the kids will love it, especially if the pics are embarrassing!
And how are you today?

Dol, I so wish you were the teacher of my 12 year old!

I think this is a great idea. Kids too often see teachers in one context only. Knowing that you were once a kid that experienced the life they are now living can only be a positive!

PS. I love the Hulk pic , too! :cool2:

Ummm. Because you're a good teacher? :wave2:

Edit to add:

My 24 year old daughter just started teaching this fall. Her students were amazed that she was going to see her parents[/] for Christmas break! OMG! She has parents just like we do!

I did my oral presentation today. The kids thought the pictures were hilarious, and were really amused by seeing how my hair went from long to short to long to short to long to short. I was slightly distressed when (one of my favourite) kids said, "Wow, you were a lot heavier in this picture!" when the photo was taken AFTER I lost a whole bunch of weight after having Liam (granted, I'm 20lbs lighter now, but at that point, I was 50lbs lighter than my pre-pregnancy weight!)

Highlight of the day:

"Ms. Drummond, you dressed up as the Incredible Hulk? Figures."

"Are you making fun of me because I've always been a big geek?"

"I thought you preferred the term 'dork'?"

I (jokingly) hit him in the head with the envelope I was holding. :P
