HOLY CARP!!!

How many families do you personally know *of*? This means two parents of the same gender that are currently raising, or have raised, kids. They don't have to be friends of yours to count them. On the other hand don't count them if you just read about them in the newspaper. They could live down the street and you don't know them personally but you know of them. Their kid can be in your school and that is how you personally know of them, etc. |

Know "of" - 8. There may be more, but that's the number I could count off-hand. |

I know of three in NYC and one in Florida. There lived down the street from me when we had a house on the Intercoastal in Fl Lauderdale. The "parents" we Jewish Lesbians--who adopted a Black kid. The women owned a very successful tropical fish business. After they adopted the built a huge fence around their house and never let their daughter play with neighborhood kids. Fantastic playground inside all kinds of stuff--just no playmates. Funny thing is no one cared about them being gay or about their adoption. Very odd. |

I know three. There doesn't seem to be anything particularly remarkable about them either way. |

I don't know any. I'm like to know if those who know gay-parented families consider the kids being raised any more screwed up than other children. |

I know two, both lesbian couples. In one, the daughter is the natural daughter of one of the couple, in the other the boy is the abandoned son of one of the two's sister. In the first one, the daughter is a basket case. She has no self esteem, she's torn between defending her mother and just being a teenager, she sleeps around like a 2 dollar whore, looking for acceptance. She's told me herself that she loves her mother to death, but she hates her mother for what she's put her through, and her most earnest wish is that her daddy would come get her. The boy is about the most screwed up mess I've ever seen. The only people he was ever around growing up was women, mostly lesbians. He has a permanent in his hair, wears fingernail polish, and emotes with all the mannerisms of an old queen. But he insists that he "likes" girls, and when one of his friends say something about how he might be gay, he puts his hand over his mouth in a limp wristed fashion, turns his head slightly to the side, giggles, and says "oh nooooo, not me!!"...... then he gets caught giving blow jobs behind the high school... More than once I've told him I was gonna "take him fishing". He always says "Oooh nooo..... fish are *ucky"....... |

2 who raise families here and are both, BTW, married. A lesbian couple of 30+ years with two daughters adopted from China. All is well with them, lovely people all. The other, a gay male couple with 3 kids with a stay at home Dad who is very active in our school system. They have two boys, with special needs, and a daughter who would melt your heart. They adopted through the local social services system. Both these families are treated like any other in our community. We love them and support their lives together. It is the least we can do as both families are very active in the community. That does not include couples who have children through conventional marriages who later separated and found their true partners. To be honest, I don't count the numbers, just the blessings in knowing families I can look up to.
