Seem to remember that homosexuality has been around since before the mighty Roman Empire. Eventually can be a long time. |

It also seems that in the days of the Roman Empire and before, homosexuality was seen as sort of acceptable. Not normal, but it was not news if someone had a same-sex lover. |
| And how are you today? | |

IMO, it comes down to this: Why are marriages recognized by the state to begin with? Why are benefits given, and what are the benefits to society by civilly recognizing hetero marriages? Do homosexual unions benefit society as well? If yes, then do the benefits to society equal or approximate the same benefits to society from heterosexual marriages? If all the answers to these questions are yes, then fine, legalize homosexual marriages. Do you ever wonder what the founding fathers would think about issuues like abortion, gay marriage, stem cell research, etc....? |
| The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it. | |

Nope. They're dead. They lived in a different world. Besides, they didn't get everything right. They thought slavery was groovy. Times change. |

Do you ever wonder what William the Conqueror would think about the iPod? I suspect that those owning one would be tied to a stake, before being subjected to the original version of 'Come one baby, light my fire'. |

On the contrary, John D'Oh. Had William the Conqueror had an iPod, he would have been a gentler and kinder conqueror, seeing that then he could have listen to soothing music constantly to calm his nerves. Similarly, some of the founding fathers could have been gay in nature and lived in agony for that. Had same-sex union been deemed acceptable, perhaps they would have suffered less and made even better judgment as a result, such as recognizing the immorality of slavery. |

He'd have lost, you mean, and a good thing too. Centuries of French-speaking nobility could have been avoided. I would now be an enormous red-headed bear of a man, rather than the slightly effete dark-haired, long-eyelashed combination of Gaul and Gael you would see staring at you if my web-cam was switched on, and full internet privileges had been restored. |
