im bumping this because i was so impressed with your video that i decided to tackle it myself. one question, how did u decide on when to use the left or right hand? maybe ill just copy your technique from the vid. |

Wow, thanks Bach! Yeah if anyone has to learn how to play it...it's you! To answer your question, that was the best part about this piece. You simply add your left hand anytime your right hand can't hit all the keys you need. This applies during the one-note left hand part (as you can see in the video) that is present during most of the prelude, especially the first 10 seconds. And also, every now and then when you are doing a 8+ note run, it helps to use the left hand to roll smoothly, such as at 0:35. But seriously, the best part is simply learning it from the sheet music and deciding when to use that optional left hand in order to make it as comfortable as possible. There are no rules, just whatever you thinks works best. Let me know if you have any questions!

i had a lesson this evening and brought along anyway, so we started talking about it. he told me to hold the left hand bass for at least the half measure, like a pedaled note. it turns out his daughter plays the cello and he said..on the cello, the bass note will continue to resonate as u proceed with the higher notes in the measure and by holding the bass u simulate that. he told me some history (which i didnt know...)...seems the cello suites were practically unknown to the world...until pablo casals wandered into a second hand bookstore and found an old 19th century edition of music which he had never seen, and realizing they were masterpeices, took them, eventually recorded them and the rest is history. here is a hand written copy in anna magdelena's fine handwriting. wow. |
