Currently, there is a little tiny message zooming from America, all the way across the Atlantic, finding my home, going through my main server then buzzing through the air to my wireless laptop, all ina few seconds' Bloody hell... technology dumbfounds me when i think about it... x |

Depends, is it a wireless router? If you're using a connection at home and you are able to hook up a cable line, I'd strongly suggest doing so. A wireless connection can be interrupted by just about every other device in your home, from your walls to cordless phones and microwave ovens. Unless you do some things to your connection, you really can't expect any kind of consistency with your bandwidth. Wireless internet connections are intended to give internet access to areas where wires aren't feasible. If they are, then there's no point to having them as a cable connection will almost always be better. |

I don't have a telephone point in my room so i have to opt for wireless (same reason why the phone in my room comes fromthe main base station in the living room). ![]() This is wild, i am getting a consistently better hook up to Chicago then i do to London. ![]() x |

Well, unless you're doing a serious amount of downloading or uploading, your connection speed shouldn't matter all that much. 500kbps is pretty modest these days, and more than sufficient for web surfing. |

Plays, make sure you don't settle for anything less than the latest Wireless-N specification router. Post us the model number and we'll make sure he's got you something decent

The interesting thing is, Klaus, that when I got rid of my cable and switched to DSL I dropped from 5 megs to 768. Most of the time, I really don't notice a difference, since I don't download a ton of files. For average browsing, 768 is more than enough. |

My lowly sbc-yahoo dsl line clocks 1.277Mbps on the download, and 317kbps on the upload. For $19 a month, more than ample for the 5 PCs and 1 laptop I have running in the house. |
