I have Cable, and recently I went to 5 megs. Soon I will be upgrading to 10 Megs - should be great!

The difference between 2 Megs and 5 megs is pretty significant already, although not for normal surfing. Why you have multiple computers going, it definitely helps.

The Poll asks for download speeds only - as most upload speeds are unfortunately often ignored and much slower.

Do you prefer that over having a lopsided connection, like 10mb down and 768kbs up?

I've had it for 5 1/2 years.

It's reliable as it gets and that is what I prefer.

Would I like a faster connection? You betcha!

In fact, I am looking into one as a fail-over circuit just in case the T1 goes down which is a very rare event. My customers demand the reliability that only comes with a dedicated circuit.

I use a Cisco 2600 series router too. Cha-CHING! :smokin:

That is a COOL site! I've seen others like it...but not with the nice graphics! :)

I'm 8.7 here, but I'm still at work.

Wow
Mine stinks at home.
I pay for DSL from my phone company and that website says I have:

411 kb/s down

158Kb/s up

Latency 117 ms.

Hmm
Yuck

Time to shop.

I wonder if it varies throughout the day as load changes.

Yeah, that site is awesome - my favorite speed test one so far.

Oh, they also archive all of your speed tests, so you can see when speeds are different over time. :D

That's a pretty interesting test site Crash. I used to use Broadbandreports.com, but like this one for ease of use.

My test says (from a server in NYC - distance 300 miles):

Download speed: 13.67 Mbps
Upload speed: 370 kbps

Over 13 mega bits!!! Last time I checked months ago, it was 8. Makes the comcast bill a little more palatable. :singdance:

(I've bookmarked that site... thanks.)

Broadbandreports.com was what I used too, but this one is much nicer and has many more features.

Mine is going up to 10Mpbs soon, and hopefully after that another upgrade!

No matter how far away I test the results are consistent.

Improviso, I'm over by Manhattan, I don't get Comcast, it's TimeWarner here. I kind of want Comcast seeing your 13Mpbs! The fastest I can go is 10Mpbs soon. Hey, that's pretty fast though. :D

I responded to the poll with 8-10, because that's what I thought it was based on my last test last year. I then ran the test from your link and was pleasantly surprised.

Hey... at 10mbps, do you know how fast Saddam dropped thru that hole in the video... HaHaHaHaHaHa.......

Poor poor Plays... She's upstairs running on a wireless connection at 1.5 mbps. If she ever read this, she'd make me go out and buy a faster router and wireless network card. :darthno:

So i kept trying over and over again. They were all over the place!!

 Why do they differ so much? This is my wireless laptop in my room.

Mine is all over the place. Depends on where i test it and god knows what other reasons. I've done a few and it has ranged fromdownload of about 300kpbs, right up to 5Mbps

Ten bucks says that's a big part of it. Never use wireless unless you have to use wireless.

Will my wireless by slower than the main router in our home study?

We're supposed to be getting 54Mbps.
