I got a nice holiday card from my boss saying "In the spirit of spreading warmth and good cheer...etc....etc...etc...a donation has been made in your honor to (this Charity). Happy Holidays..."

So basically a donation was made in my honor, which is nice...and I've seen others get that before, but my question is...is there something I should do now? Should I just walk up to my boss and say thanks for this? I dont want to make a ignorant mistake! :P

When in doubt, go for the Thank You card. Cards always work.
And how are you today?

Clearly you need to barge in there and demand he withdraw the gift and kindly place the cash in your hand. Man your boss is selfish

Haha...is that bad that I assumed your boss was a man? And that your cleaning lady is in fact a lady?

Get her a thankyou card and explain how you thought it was a lovely present. That you are glad she was kind enough to give it to a cause that desperately needed it. She will appreciate it if you show that you are thankful she did a good thing and got a gift for you that will actually do some good in the world, rather than buy you a gift you'd probably just throw in a cupboard.

I have a couple of friends who like to give charitable donations as Christmas gifts, but I let them know which charities I prefer, and that I'd like the receipt if possible for tax purposes.

(Call me Scrooge... :P )
It was a confusion of ideas between him and one of the lions he was hunting in Kenya that had caused A. B. Spottsworth to make the obituary column. He thought the lion was dead, and the lion thought it wasn't.

Now you know what to get your boss next year.
