Help Me! I need a side dish; to go with leg of lamb...

I have a green vegetable (roasted brussel sprouts), and I'm putting par-boiled potatoes under the lamb (they get all nice and browned and are delicious with the gravy) but I need something else on the plate, and I am at a total loss. Something I could throw into a casserole dish would be nice.

HELP!

Jodi (who is unsure how late the grocery store is open today...)

Waldorf Salad, or something with fruit. Always good with lamb. Either that or a very good crusty bread.

I like Mik's ideas, but if you're sticking with the casserole dish, how about this recipe for Orzo Pilaf,
as ripped of the side of a pasta box?? We love it.

1 cup of orzo
1/2 - 1 chopped onion
brown in butter for a few minutes

add 2 1/3 cups chicken broth, bring to boil

Turn down to simmer, cover, should be just under 15 minutes.
Recipe calls for a sprinkle of parsley.

That's a serving for four.

Oh yeah, final direction-
dump into casserole dish before serving.

Funny, I was thinking orzo, too.

A hot curried fruit compote goes well with lamb.

Love Orzo, but that would be potatoes and pasta. Two starches.

Yeah, which at my house would mean that I'd be trying to think of just one more.
:)

You and plays are right; lamb and something fruit-themed.
