HOLY CARP!!!

from skynews.com Making Hearts Flutter Updated: 07:48, Friday December 22, 2006 Surgeons are better looking than other doctors, research has suggested. A study compared male students and discovered that those who were tall and handsome tended to become surgeons. Meanwhile, students who were shorter and less good looking favoured a career as a physician. Doctors at the University of Barcelona hospital carried out research after noticing the trend. They tested the theory with 12 surgeons and 12 physicians. All were matched for age (52, give or take seven years), their height was recorded and they were asked to submit a digital picture. The photos were then ranked by a group of eight females. The results revealed that, on average, senior male surgeons were significantly taller and considered better looking than senior male physicians. The researchers said: "Surgeons are the only doctors who practise what has been called 'confidence based medicine', which is based on boldness. "They are often practical and fast acting, and they exert tight control on their natural turf - the operating theatre. "Their extra height makes them more likely to be masters and commanders, and gives them a better view of the operating room, including the patient lying on the table." They continued: "Physicians tend to hang heavy stethoscopes around their necks, which bows their heads forward and reduces their perceived height." |

I guess the "perceived height" of proctologists would be worse considering what they're examining. Good thing the patients are facing the other way. |

Random FML: Today, I was fired by my boss in front of my coworkers. It would have been nice if I could have left the building before they started celebrating. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. Reminds me of the joke - slightly off topic: - What's the difference between a bull and a symphony orchestra? - A bull has the horns in front, and the a**hole in back. |

I don't think I've ever met a good surgeon that didn't have a bit of A-hole about him. Maybe it's part of the job description.... |

"...Doctors at the University of Barcelona hospital carried out research after noticing the trend." I remain amazed at the many ways physicians continue to turn out paper after paper, breaking new ground in areas previously not studied by others. These are incredible men discovering incredible things.

So, good looking is a sliding scale from tall to short? Me tall and handsome surgeon, you sub-human. You belong to the caste of short, ugly people aka physicians. People who think surgeons are the only doctors who practise 'confidence based medicine' have never seen House. |

Handsome or not, I'm waiting for the study that will put to bed the question of doctors' skills b/t the sheets. Surgeons are so confident, yet do their 'other skills' compare with those of their peers ???? Hmm ..... ![]() |
