It's a pretty famous piece, almost always heard on the Cello, and lasts about 2 minutes.

I'd love to learn it on the piano...it's always been on of my favorite classical pieces.

But I cant find the sheet music to download for free anywhere! :weeping:

Why don't you listen to the Rostropovich recording and write it down yourself?

Also, you should have a look at the Prelude from P.D.Q. Bach's Suite No. 2 for Cello All By Its Lonesome. It's fun -- kind of a parody of this one. But you'd have to pay for it, and there isn't a commercial recording.

Isaac, you are either going to have to split this up, or your poor left hand is going to get AWFULLY tired...

Actually it would be a great piece for lh alone.

The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. When the only one that is repeatedly held up as unjust and unjustifiable is the Zionist project, the term anti-semitism may very well be appropriate. - P*D

Thanks Sam!!!

Mik, I did plan on splitting this up, although Phlebas has an interesting idea...it would be a bit of a show piece if you could hold your right hand in the air the whole time while playing this! :P

If I had the time to realy pursue another instrument, it would surely be the cello... so beautiful a sound.

But, 89th..I think it might be kind of a fun exercise to transpose this for two hands.

I'm looking for some sheet music,
Just like the ones I used to know,
Where the notes they glisten
And children listen
To hear a pretty cello....

I'm (doowap, doowap) looking(doowap) for some sheet (doowap doowap) music,
With every keyboard stroke that I type (doowap doowap doo)
May your days be merry and white (ooh ooh)
And may all your sheet music have copyright.....

I love the cello too. It's my second favorite solo instrument, after the piano of course. I took lessons for one year when I was younger...it's a beautiful instrument.

I would love to see Yo Yo Ma play one day. Although I saw another semi-famous cellist a couple years ago...just astounding.

I just started learning it...pretty simple so far, and it sounds GLORIOUS!

I cant wait for it to be finished...I'll upload a video when I'm done. Of course, that might not be for weeks the way I learn. I usually learn 25% of a piece in a day and then let it collect dust for weeks, and then I learn another 25%, repeat as needed...

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

Two, but the left hand only plays the single base each time. I think once I learn it, I'll mix it up a bit and add a couple notes to the left hand to make it sound even better. But I shouldn't get ahead of myself.

Hey, on lines 33 and 35, there are little circles (above each "A" note)...what on earth does that mean? Is it a cello thing?

You have to sing 'OHHH' for the duration of each note.

Those notes are to be played as harmonics. It's a stringed instrument thing.

Can't do it on a piano.

Nope, those circles just mean to use the open A string, rather than playing A on the D string. (in this case, it's just to make bowing easier and more consistant; but in general open A string is more of a buzzy, thinner kind of sound, whereas A on the D string has a fuller sound; plus, you can't do vibrato with an open string, not that one would do so much vibrato in this piece anyway)

They aren't harmonics. If they were harmonics, the notes would be square.
