Hey Frank!; ...Jeep questions

As I was growing up (you can ask my family), I was in love with Jeep Wranglers. I thought they were awesome, but since I've had my own car for the last 5 years or so, I haven't thought about them. But your pictures yesterday re-sparked my interest! Mainly because sometime in 2007, I anticipate being forced to get a new car (current one is starting to feel it's 12+ year age).

A couple questions:

1) How easy/fast is it to take off and the soft top?
2) Does the climate affect the inside more than usual? Like in the winter, is it impossible to heat up the inside of your car? (I'd say the same thing about the summer, but it seems that a jeep would be cooler in the summer - in both senses of the word!
3) Are they expensive at all to fix? More than a normal car?
4) How top-heavy are they? I drove one once, and it felt like it was going to flip over on every turn.
5) I would want the tires to be so that they are slightly wider than the frame of the car...is this expensive? Also, how much does this affect the stability of the car (see question 4)

Thanks!! :wave2:

Awesome!! You can't go wrong with a Jeep. :)

Yes. It's not that hard. It takes a little time, but once you've done it a few times, there's nothing to it.

No. One thing that Chrysler does well: HVAC systems!! It was 12F here, last week. By the time I got to work, (ten minutes away from home), I had to turn the heater down. It was blasting me outta' there!

On the rare occasion that something breaks? Nawww.... No more or less different.

Since they've gone to a slightly longer wheelbase and gone to coil springs, rather than leaf springs, they ride MUCH better, and they aren't nearly so top-heavy. That said, they ARE considered an SUV and they don't corner like a Porsche.

Well, for the larger tires and a lift kit, probably figure anywhere from $800-$1,200, depending on what all you have done to it, and whether or not you do the labor yourself, or have it done by a garage.

Thanks Frank!!!

I think if I'm going to buy a Jeep, I would spend an extra grand on getting the larger/wider tires. But I'm sure I'll be test driving them for a while, so who knows.

By the way, a second question, since I've never purchased a car...can you just go to Jeep dealerships and test drive them? Like what exactly do you need before the dealer lets you test drive it?

Just tell them you like a certain Jeep and ask them if you can take it for a test drive. :)

Also...what should I get, an X, Sport, or Unlimited?

I'm such a n00b.

A used Jeep should go in that neighborhood. I would get a Sport or a Rubicon. :)

Pick up chicks?

Who wants chicks that fall over?
Besides isn't the idea to get them on the ground.

Hell, in a nice Jeep you could get them anywhere you wanted them.

3 speed automatic? In a jeep? That can't be right! It sure is cute though.

The transmission also struck me as funny. I want an automatic, that's for sure. But is 3 speed normal?

You're buying a Jeep but you want it as an automatic??

That is just wrong, Isaac, on SO many levels.

Not really. I mean...I get your quasi-facetious point.

But I dont plan on going off-roading with it, where you would need a manual.

On the streets I prefer an automatic way more than a manual.

But we've been down that road. :rimshot:

Well, far be it from me to be judgmental, but automatic transmission in a Jeep is like... painting a mustache on the Mona Lisa!

Although I will say...if I ever did get a manual vehicle, it would be in the Jeep. So you never know...who knows, when I test drive it, it might not be so bad.

You're just too damn lazy to change gear! :P

But seriously, i know somepeople prefer driving automatics and that's really good for them but i just couldn't ever dream of driving long term in anything other than a manual.

And a Jeep of all things.

The whole point of having a Jeep is to be adventurous. To tear up the road and LIVE the whole driving experience.

And you want a bloody automatic! :banghead: :weeping:

(I'm just joking wiith you. :P If you want an automatic, go for it. Just be sure you know that i wont ever talk to you again though. ^_^ )

Manuals are way sexier.
