Question for Social Conservatives; What do you think of Giuliani?

To you self-identified social conservatives. Two questions.

(1) What do you think of Giuliani as a candidate for President?

(2) Do you think his liberal social views mean he's doomed in the primaries?

Interesting article here.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Interesting you brought this up. My local radio station was talking about this, this morning.

1) I think he's a terrific leader, whether it's dealing with terrorists, cleaning up his own city, or enforcing the law. And this is possibly the President's most important duty - to be a good leader. I certainly dont agree with all of his social stances, but would support/prefer him over many other candidates and would be quite frankly happy if he won. I probably wont vote for him in the primaries if I have a choice, but certainly would in the general election if the choice was there.

2) I dont know if he's doomed, but he certainly has a hill to climb.

I'm not a social conservative for the most part, but I think Rudy is a sharp guy who might well be able to draw a lot more people to the GOP. Not all Republicans are 'dyed-in-the-wool' conservatives.

I think if you can deal with the issues that plague NYC you can likely handle the presidency.

I don't think he's a viable candidate as I think there are too many easy-to-find skeletons in his closet. I don't know that being a mayor will provide the necessary foreign policy skills to improve US-foreign relations.

But he's a New Yorker, so he can sling mud well enough to win a primary if there is no tough competition.

Giuliani's problem is that he matches McCain, weakness for weakness and strength for strength.

McCain is not beloved of the religious right. Giuliani's worse.

Giuliani's strength is anti-terrorism. McCain's is military service and POW status.

The two of them are going after the same demographic.

I think he'll run pretty well...what hurts him most is his views on abortion and same sex marriage, IIRC.

Speaking from the viewpoint of a Southern Social Conservative, we value leadership - not stick your finger in the wind Clintonian leadership. We also value law and order.

I think Rudy is very appealing on those issues.

Another dishonest faux-toshop job by the AP!
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

I didn't say that. The question wasn't whether he was a better candidate than Hillary or not. And perhaps the democrats are more tolerant of unethical behavior, I don't know.

But you don't clean up NY the way Giulliani did without cutting deals that are better kept private. Plus, he's an admitted adulterer - probably not a plus with the religious right.

I do like Rudy immensely though.
