Bad posture; ...at the computer

As many of us are...I'm at the computer for many, many hours a day. That part I dont mind. Although I would rather be playing golf...

Anyway...anyone else have bad posture while sitting here at the computer? I find myself comfortably and lazily slouched over while browsing, typing, etc. And every now and then, I'll catch myself and I'll sit with a straight back, and not only does it feel better (and make me much taller), but I can sometimes even here my back crack.

It's not a problem now...but there is now way I can keep up this horrible habit for more than another couple years.

By the way...this reminds me of a funny cartoon:

I have to be aware of posture all day because I am practicing - and piano posture is essential to playing well, so that helps me keep a good posture when I am away from the piano.

HOLY CARP!!!
My company forces us to take ergonomic training every year.
There are even full-time employees who go around and help you analyze and improve your working environment.

Bad body mechanics and repetitive motion injuries are no joke.
It wouldn't seem like you could seriously injure yourself gently and gradually but you really can.

I'm a habitual slouch - at the piano and at the computer. I just can't be arsed to sit up straight.

However, since starting to stretch fairly religiously and hitting the gym, I get no pain or discomfort. I found this page quite useful:

Seal stretch is a good one for the lower back.

A good, challenging yoga class.

Also, see this computer chair which many of my desk-bound yoga students swear by.

Nothing worthwhile, including correct alignment, is easy. If one wants to avoid becoming a hunched-over old person, one does actually have to put effort into that. ^_^

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead
Posture is difficult. I always try to find a chair that encourages me to sit up straight and has good lumbar support. My current one is from Staples and it is the best I've ever had.

This is it, but mine is in black: Staples® Rushmore™ High Back Brown Microsuede Manager's Chair
