Teen Finds and Returns $24,000

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (AP) - A woman who lost 24-thousand dollars in cash at a movie theater says she was stunned when the teenager who found the wad returned it.

The teen, Christopher Montgomery, of Lynbrook, didn't want to speak about his good deed.

His mom, Donna Montgomery, says he's not the type of person to want all the attention.

But for RoseMarie Limoncelli, the 19-year-old college student's choice was commendable.

Limoncelli, who runs a business, says her life could have been flipped upside down if she hadn't recovered the pouch of 100 bills wrapped in rubber bands.

The money, which she was carrying because she hadn't had time to go to the bank, fell out of her purse as she sat inside a theater.

Christopher Montgomery, an employee at the theater, found the money while he was cleaning between the seats.

He turned it over to his manager, who gave it back to Limoncelli after she called the theater in a panic. The teen has refused offers for a cash reward.

I once lost $50. I put notices out:

"Lost: $50.
Reward!
If you find it, just keep it."

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

I used to clean movie theaters...oh what a dream and hope it was every time I started, that someone accidentally left some cash. Happens ALL the time!

I'm sorry...when I go to the movies, I take good notice of where I put even my cell phone, let alone a bundle of $24,000!!! How do you even blink without thinking "Is the money still there?" let alone leave the freakin theater without thinking about it. What a n00b!!!!1

Oh man... I never leave money in my car!!

If that $24,000 was enough to cause a significant impact to her life, you would think that going straight to the bank, (and carrying the money in the form of a check/cheque rather than cash!) would have been her top priority.  :rolleyes2:

Why dont you leave money in your car?

I usually dont, but have often left my wallet in my car when playing a soccer game where I wouldn't want my wallet left unattended on the sidelines. I would think taking the money in with you to the theater is a fine idea, which I would have done. But she actually let it fall out of her purse somehow....

Seriously, though, whether she had time to go to the bank or not - why did she have 24k in cash period?

Oh and all I can say is if I had found 24k in highschool I'd have hired Van Halen to play at my graduation party. ;)
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Anyone dumb enough to walk around with $24k in a purse and stop at a movie along the way deserves to lose it. I hope she gave this kid a decent reward.
So live your life and live it well.

Because cars are easy to break into, and if there's a wallet lying there, the temptation is pretty great.

That's why you dont leave the wallet lying there for someone to see. Just put it under your seat or something...no big deal.

I don't know. I just keep mine in my pocket. If I need my ID, money, a credit card, etc., I have it with me. Then again, I drive a Jeep, and I'm used to running around without the top or doors on it, so I don't leave anything of value that could blow out or get stolen.

I do to, Frank.

I'm just saying, if I were a woman carrying around a purse. I would probably put a bundle of 24 thousand bucks under my seat rather than put it loosely in my purse at the movies.

Damn...I want that Jeep. No top and no doors? Juuuuuust right.

Jeeps rock!! :D

But yeah... They can be dusty and slow, and they have all the aerodynamics of a brick with a pup tent on top, but I just love them. (glancing affectionately at mine, parked outside...) :hearts:

Try zooming down the highway in the middle of a torrential downpour with no top and no doors, listening to Carl Orff's, "Carmina Burana" blasting on the stereo!! I get some great looks from people! :lol2:
