Our Olympus 4mp digital just stopped working. The lens won't come out anymore. I like the looks of the really skinny ones, and kindof like the folded lens design that doesn't have the big lens stick out. The family is lobbying hard for a bigger LCD. Something tells me I'll need a camera this weekend... So what do you have/like in the $200ish range? |

You can get a Canon PowerShot SD600 6.0-Megapixel Digital ELPH Camera at Office Depot for $250 right now...that is a really solid camera. Actually, you have quite a few options. I like Canon and Sony cameras (just bought a Canon camera, actually). http://www.compusa.com - You can search and find a couple cameras for less than 200 bucks that have 5-6 MP, which is really nice. Other sites to check: ONLINE outlets: http://www.tigerdirect.com http://www.newegg.com RETAIL outlets: http://www.circuitcity.com http://www.bestbuy.com Great site for camera reviews: http://www.cnet.com |

Hmm...how old are the kids? I would assume if they are using the camera, they are old enough to be responsible about it, so I would think it's really a non-issue. I would look for a 2" LCD screen, and 6megapixels. If you can find a Canon or Sony option, that would be my suggestion... |

Cool. Luckily the prices come down a bit each year...so it's not the end of the world if they mess up the camera, but I would definitely encourage the teenager to take care of the camera and even say that they'll have to pay you back if they ruin it. |

Over the Thanksgiving weekend I bought a Nikon L6 (6 megapixel) Coolpix at Staples for $180. I am very pleased with this camera. Small, pocket-size, but has a decent 2.5 inch LCD. I did go ahead and spend $35 for a battery recharger (it takes AA batteries). The features on this camera are really nice. I like the images I've taken so far. |

Finally

My 3rd daughter (age 20) was asking about a camera that's a bit more "durable" and not too fragile. Don't need anything more than 3 megapix, and a reasonable optical zoom. Suggestions? |

I'll second this recommendation (I have a similar model). Very easy to use, fits in my pocket, good battery life, a nice screen, good quality pictures. I'm happy with it. |

First, I would suggest a minimum 4 MP, secondly, go to http://www.cnet.com and you can sort the reviews by price, features, etc... |

I've had two Canons and two Sonys. The Canons each took better pictures and had easier to use menus. I'd look for a Canon at the price point you want and never look back. |

Good choice, Ron, I have a predecessor camera to that one, its the one I thought I lost a couple of weeks back. 89 - funny, I like Canon and Sony also. I 'replaced' my Canon with the new Sony Cybershot DSC-T10. Its tiny, has the most ingenious optical zoom thats inside the camera (no protruding lens) and is 7MP. The battery life meter says how many MINUTES are left on the battery, and the reviews all say its pretty accurate. I'm pretty psyched to use it next week. |

Jon...that sounds awesome! My mom has a Sony Cybershot as well and it takes phenomenal pictures, and hers is at least a year old! |

I have to post this - because I think its so cool. This camera has a telephoto lens that travels up and down the length (height?) of the camera, which receives the image through an angled mirror. That way it has true optical zoom with no protruding parts - it allowed them to make this extra small.

4MB 5MB 6MB 7MB. . . Apparently people think of max file size as the main feature. For some users max file size may not be that important since many don't use the highest resolution since they can get fewer pics on a memory card. |

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead
|
I think you made the right choice.. we have a Sony and, while it has a lot fo bells and whistles for the money, the pictures are not as good as I would like.. it can be a little erratic at times too. But that could be the operator.

i'd have been happy with less myself, but i now have a 2G card. so even at 7M pixels, I have a lot of pics, ceretainly more than i'd take on any one vacation, let alone in one day. |

Well that's an easy fix. Just get a larger memory card! That way you can take more high-quality pics!
