Had to go the the bank today. As I'm leaving the bank, a Volvo pulled out directly in front of me. The young woman driving it never bothered to look, but instead just pulled right out, drove about 50 yards and turned left, without ever giving a signal.

Maybe it's the implied sense of entitlement these drivers send out that irritates me so much.

On second thought, nope it's that, PLUS the reckless driving habits.

:mad2:

Plays, I really have no idea what you're talking about. All the volvo drivers I see are either little old ladies, or 16-year-olds who inherited the car from their little old lady grandmothers. Heck, even I fell into that category. I dunno, maybe it's a Richmond thing, but around here people are pretty lax with traffic laws in general and it's commonplace to get cut off. You pretty much have to in order to get to where you're going; nobody's going to let you in otherwise.

I will say this, though. Had I the money, I would have gotten another Volvo. They make very sound vehicles. Mercedes, on the other hand, is the worst manufacturer to date in terms of break downs and faulty parts.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

I agree with you when it comes to highways. People driving 55 can cause more problems than the people driving 80. But in general, I think drivers in residential or heavily commercial areas do not pay enough attention to those that live, work and walk on the streets.

My town is about 22,000 people...it is reasonably congested throughout the day, so the person that wants to drive faster than the speed limit is generally reduced to being a tailgater. My driveway is on a busy (30mph) road between two cross streets. As I'm driving down the road at 30mph, preparing to take a left into my driveway, people behind me are inevitably on my tail and expecting me to turn onto one of the side streets. When I don't turn onto the first, they assume I'm continuing on to the second. When I stop sooner to go into the driveway, they panic stop (if they can) or go around me and drive on my neighbors lawn across the street. In the 8 years I've lived at my house, I've seen roughly 40 accidents at my intersection. I've had 5 cars end up in my yard, with one about 12 inches from the house and one 3 feet from my daughters' playset. In those 2 cases, the cause for cars ending that far in my yard was excessive speed.

Drivers need to realize that their driving has an impact on people unrelated to the effect on the flow of traffic.

ny, wasn't that part of the reason you built that wall in your front yard? Must be a pretty serious problem if it comes to that.

Yup. I've asked the town to help. No help. I'd move, but we love the house and the neighbors.

Perhaps tank barriers and anti-vehicle mines would be a solution.

I've sometimes thought traffic would be much calmer if we were all issued one shoulder fired rocket to use when necessary.
