HOLY CARP!!!
Dewey I'm with you.
I support it.

But over half the people here don't.

Speak up you majority.
Why not?
Isn't there something more here important than your modesty?

Fly naked
***CONTENT WARNING***

Why is it that people who engage in public nudity in one form or another are the VERY people who should never be allowed to disrobe.... EVER... even while bathing.

Some skanky looking folks, indeed. :puke:
Identifying narcissists isn't difficult. Just look for the person who is constantly fishing for compliments
and admiration while breaking down over even the slightest bit of criticism.

We have the freedom to choose our actions, but we do not get to choose our consequences.

I can't understand the thought process that would allow someone to be perfectly willing to get shiny-boned naked in a locker room with a bunch of strangers just because they wanted to have a workout or a dip in the pool; but to feel it an unacceptable invasion of privacy for some TSA screener to catch a five-second glance of a ghosty image of their dick, in order to possibly save a few hundred lives.

Because "privacy" is something that you decide to give others access to -- not something the government has a right to demand you give them access to. Massive difference.
The dogma lives loudly within me.

No, the government is intervening in and putting conditions on a private transaction between an individual and a company.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

I see your point, but that group that disrobes in a locker room is self-selected.

As ny has said, so is the group that flies. No one's holding a gun to anyone's head to get on a plane, and we should do everything we can to keep from having a gun to their head once they're on board. To me, it's a really misdirected sense of propriety to be worked up over something like this. If we have that preventative technology, and someone is too put out to use it, my answer is "You see that exit door that Frank W showed those other guys? You can use it, too."

And it won't be much consolation to the survivors of someone who was killed in the next terrorist hijacking - even if "only" the couple hundred on board were killed, instead of the plane being flown into the Sears Tower - to tell them, "Well, we had the technology to prevent this, but some people were a little shy about going through the X-Ray, so we didn't implement it."

It is hardly "self selected" -- many of us have to fly for our livelihood. And in health clubs one can be as discreet as one chooses to be.

I am also concerned about the health risks of X rays. Unacceptable to me on a variety of levels.
The dogma lives loudly within me.

Even though I have a decidedly libertarian streak, I don't think that all government intervention is a bad thing. This is one of those times.

True enough Dewey, but the government is mandating that I must agree to what a amounts to a cursory strip search before I board the plane. I alone find that offensive, as I do stores that insist that I leave all bags at the entrance, or stores that inspect my receipt and goods before I leave the store.

I find it intrusive, but given the state of the world, not offensive. I find it far more offensive to think that my in-flight safety will be jeopardized because someone would feel "violated" to have been put through one of these scans. I find that as offensive as someone who doesn't want to remove a hijab to prove their identity.

Intrusive is a better word. So is annoying and irritating. Nevertheless, I do not find it offensive in the least if hajibs and other Islamic accoutrements were outright banned from public aircraft. So there you have it- you've scratched me and discovered that I am a despot with a :mad2: face.

My right to not be killed outranks your right to modesty.

It is not reasonably possible for me to change jobs (unless you want to compensate me for 17 years of business development and pay me $300K per year minus whatever I would earn at another job). and it is not reasonably possible for me to drive to my projects

It is not an issue of modesty but of rights of privacy and health concerns. My right to not be deliberately exposed to carcinogens by the government outweighs all of your rights to not be killed.

If you don't want to be killed, don't fly, and build a bunker in your backyard and never go out. That is every bit as reasonable as your suggestions.

And yet, as I said earlier, it will all sound very hollow after the next suicide hijacking mission. Sorry, the argument against using this technology is too much like what would be exposed on the passengers - there's just no "there" there. ^_^

Except for me, of course. The screeners would call their friends over to see my scan, and then give me a standing ovation...

Dewey and Kenny:
How do you reconcile that with the 4th Amendment?

Quote:

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
