If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead
Once again the treasonous NY Times prints a leaked memo from the Bush Administration, wherein the NSA expresses concerns about Al Maliki. I saw it on the news and don't have a link, but I'm sure you have already heard it by now.

It is time to file treason charges against that rag. There was nothing in that memo that was worth printing from a public need to know, and our governmental agencies have the right to confidential communication. All it could do was create trouble and embarassment for our efforts in Iraq at an incredibly sensitive time.

I very much in favor of a free press. But there is a limit.

IMHO the limit has been crossed several times. A free press needs to be a responsible press.

As mike says, this leak didn't serve the public. It simply embassed our government, making there difficult situation worse, and sold papers!

Finally
There are those who say that the public has the right to know exactly what the government is doing, especially with respect to things that are, well, questionable in the eyes of some: viz, the NSA surveillance program, the SWIFT program, and now this. The theory is that the it is the right of a free and unfettered press to publish these items, and if prosecution is in the offing, it should be aimed at those who betrayed the secrets, those who broke the public trust; not those who simply report what they were told.

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.
