It seems to be in a constant state of "updates".

If not the OS and app patches from M$ then virus, spyware, maleware updates and of course other apps like FireFox, etc.

Most require a full system restart.

What a load of crap!

Basically the only time I ever restart my computer is when it prompts me after an update. No big deal...good to give the ole compy a fresh start every few weeks. :P

BTW, I use Macs very much at work and they have their share of aggrivations. It takes forever for CDs to load, and often you have to restart the Finder in order to see updated desktops or folder structures.

I was just cursing at my computer while using Word yesterday. For some unknown reason, it applied the properties of a group of files in a remote network directory to a group of like-named files in a local directory, primary of which was making all the files read-only. I had to save all the files with new names, change the properties, delete the original local files and then restore the original names to the newly saved files to continue working on them. What carp!

I rarely if ever have to restart the Finder 89th.

But it is nice that one can do that instead of doing a full system re-boot which seems to be every couple of days on XP.

CDs do not take forever to "load". They do take longer than in Windows but it is not that long.

I guess it all depends on up-keep, I guess.

For example, the Macs I use here need to have their Finder refreshed (by force quit-restart) way too often. And for example, my XP at home runs squeaky clean and has to be restarted maybe once a month because of updates. Finally, my office PC at work here runs very, very smooth and has had the least amount of problems of any computer I've used.

Yo, WTF? What's wrong with your computer...you should be prompted for updates like once a month at the most frequent. WTF, mate?

yeah, no kidding, 89th...Mark, there's something up. I haven't had an update in weeks and all of my computers are set to update automatically with my 'ok' to begin the install.

That's odd. I think I have a similar problem. Everytime I ask a girl out for some java, she says I need to update my mojo.

All of them were M$ updates. Explorer was one of them

I don't even use Explorer! I use FireFox.

St00pid OS. Just St00pid.

Mark, you've made your support of Apple too public. The Gates boys are on your case. Pretty soon, you'll be getting 'You have pressed a key. Windows must restart for the change to take effect. Would you like to restart now? (Y/N)' If you hit 'N', you will of course be hitting a key.
What do you mean "we", have you got a mouse in your pocket?

John is right. Although it wasn't Bill Gates' fault. I submitted your list as a M$ traitor.

If my customers did not use this poor excuse for a computer operating system I would have nothing to do with it.

It just plain sucks.

Goodbye indeed!

Just shut off the "update" function. I did that several years ago when it turned out my computer was unable to accept SP2 without investing some major Geek time to diddle the registry.

Everything has run just fine since then.
